This review is based on fresh and aged samples.
The sturdy flakes are neatly aligned into two rows. They are comprised of mainly very dark brown and light as well as dark brown tobaccos. There’s a pleasant sweetness to them. They are moist, but do not need to dry. Lighting requires little effort.
I tasted nuts, wood, and molasses. It’s both sour and sweet. At times, it’s slightly spicy. There’s also a little cocoa/chocolate taste .
In my opinion, WBS smokes best in a cob. It’s never harsh, even with quick puffing. It’s a medium, smooth bodied blend. I felt the presence of nicotine throughout the bowl, but it’s not overwhelming.
I highly recommend WBS to all pipe smokers. It’s an exceptional tobacco and can be smoked all day.

Really good flake and nice work Sam. I tend to process the flake and add just a little bit of Cavendish for my sweet tooth. Spot on about the cob reference too. I wouldn’t put this one in anything else. |

Good review, Sam. I am fond of the Wessex tobaccos I have tried, but I am not fond of burley. Their Virginia flakes (at least the ones I have tried) are top shelf. Also, good to see you posting at Tobacco Reviews. It is an invaluable resource for me. Again--good review.... And thanks for taking the time to post this.  |

Great review Sam 👍 Very well described and it’s one I enjoy at times. Never smoked a Wessex blend I did not enjoy, all high quality tobacco’s.

I’ve been reading JimInks for a while. His reviews are an invaluable resource for me. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of tobacco. I’ve tried many new tobaccos after reading his descriptions. I’ve learned so much from him. He was my inspiration to begin writing reviews. |
