Ok. So not only am I severely annoyed, but now slightly embarrassed as well. I picked up an ounce and a half of Bayou Morning from a somewhat local B&M a couple months ago. I really like it a lot, but I only smoke it occasionally, since it's full of vitamin N, and I have a crap load of other stuff I've been trying. What could the problem be? Well, I ordered 2oz of it from SP, which came in this week. What I've had, and believed to be Bayou Morning, is CERTAINLY not Bayou Morning. And, I have NO idea what it is. What I originally had, came out of a bulk jar with a Cornell and Diehl Bayou Morning label. Could they have mixed it up with Bayou Night? What I have smells deeply of prunes and raisins. Like Camel tobacco on steroids. It's definitely got a sh*t ton of Perique, cuz pepper. I don't detect any smokiness from Latakia. It's definitely not aromatic. It LOOKS a lot more like Bayou Night, since there are darker flakes - not black flakes though, it's not black Cavendish. It's chunkier too. Ugh. Now I have to trudge back there and find out just what the hell I got. So mad.

This sounds like a case for: If anyone can get to the bottom of it, this cat will. Commisioner Gordon had tha bat signal, in a case like this we need the Bac signal.

What I’d recommend is calling Smokingpipes in the morning and ask for Chip. He’s a pipe smoker and may have the proper answer for you. I’d trust Smokingpipes over a local B&M trying to sell something that’s NOT Bayou Morning. I’ve smoked both the Morning & Night versions and actually accumulated pounds of Bayou Night....I really enjoy this blend. However, one can’t pull the wool over my eyes when it comes to Bayou Morning as well. Only God knows what your local B&M put in that jar labeled Bayou Morning! Keep us all posted and good luck.
All JimInks would have to do is sniff your so called B&M Bayou Morning. When it comes to tobacco’s I’d trust him over a hound dog!!!

It's just DEEP raisins and prunes, to me. I guess it could be considered figgy, too.

With Bayou Night you should be tasting and smelling some good quality Latakia, a lot of woodsy smoke but not so much leather like, but it’s really for me a Perique forward blend. It ages well.

Alright. I have no idea what I've been smoking. And, much to my chagrin, may never know. I ordered a 2oz of Bayou Night, just in case (I'll probably like it, I hope). And, luckily I'll be going past Annapolis tomorrow afternoon, so I'm dead-set on stopping by THAT SHOP. I have some choice words...
But also, if they have whatever it is, I'm gonna buy like 8oz of it to put away - "mystery mix".

Like you said, mark it mystery mix. Bayou Night I think will be a blend you’ll enjoy. Also smokes superb in a good Cob. Good luck👍

Anybody recognize this as Bayou Morning? I THINK NOT!!! Whatever it is, I bought 4oz. The guy is gonna get with C&D and "get back to me" to let me know what mistake was made. I doubt he'll get back to me though.

I had a jar labeled “Scottish Mixture” that the label had as 3 years old.... some really dark leaves surprised me.
Packed the bowl and took a puff... it was an English blend.
It was like expecting a sip of Coke and your buds are hit with 7up.

It was like expecting a sip of Coke and your buds are hit with 7up. I'm wondering if it's because it's bulk, and sitting there in a jar full of air. If so, fresh and not so fresh are LIGHT-YEARS apart. The not so fresh being the better of the two While I was there, he had a box of opened samples on the counter. One was a 5/21/16 tin of Gaslight. I offered to buy it. I paid full price, but got a 2 year old tin. It feels and smells like it's in perfect condition. I've jarred it up, and put it away.

I bet your tobacconist can take a whiff and know immediately if he had made a mistake.

And, I guess it could be, being bulk, and sitting around in that tobacco jar. It might have aged faster. Edit: oh, I see what you're saying. Yes. I should have taken what I got from SP with me, and he should've been able to tell if his stuff was the same.
