This morning the wife and I had to go get some car parts on the way home we stopped in a thrift store that just opened. To my surprise I found 3 decent pipes. 2 are made in Italy with no name, they are in good shape but needs some cleaning. The third on is a Big Ben 108. It is marked Presidential Tropical. It also need cleaning. Got the three of them for about $7.00ea.

I find some great deals at antique shops but my favorite place to look is yard/garage sales. Over 25 years ago I purchased a white plastic 5 gallon bucket of unsmoked Yello-Bole Checker and Pug Pipes. Many extremely rare. The seller said to me....” you think I can get $10.00 for those junk pipes “? I said “ not sure but I’ll give you $5.00 if you through in the bucket “! So, it was a done deal. Half the pipes I kept ( total of 68 ) and some are so rare they have not been smoked. The Checker Series I sold a few at a time at $20.00 a piece and made over $300.00 back in the late 70’s! I stepped in something that day...LOL.

That's a great find... And for a great price too. I've still yet to find a decent pipe in a thrift shop. I found a set of 5 in a rack but they were in too bad a condition for me to fix up.

@lonecoyote, I have a pug and a checker. Also found a couple of KBB yello-boles. Been looking for another older pug.

But you might spot a KBB that’s in stock that you’ve been looking for👍 The B&M is WVSMOKESHOP and I’ve done business with them a number of times. I highly recommend them!!! wvsmokeshop.com/I have a very rare new/unsmoked Black Rusticated Yello-Bole Pug. I was told by Frank of Kaywoodie he believes it was a pipe that their sales people carried but only a few were made. He believes I have the only example of this stunning Pug. I will check and see if I have a photo in a cloud service, if not I will take a picture once I get back home in a few days.

These are the two pictures I had in one of my cloud services. It’s a beauty in my hand, picture doesn’t do it justice!

Well it's not a pipe, but it's a thrift store find. Yesyrtday wife saw this, came home and told me about it, today I got this 4 gal old cast iron pot for 60$.

$7 per pipe is a real good deal!
I wonder how many great pipes get thrown in the trash at the sorting tables in thrift stores.... a lot, I bet.
Some of the old cast iron ware is very desirable, and I believe that they all have identification marks and stampings.
None of my cast iron is over 20 years, all lodge brand and all are well seasoned.... the only way to cook tortillas, and fry potatoes.
I can see that pot now full of Cajun goodness!

Nothing wrong with no-name Italian basket pipes. Usually they just have cosmetic flaws or fills but are good smokers.

Excellent find! Ted...I always look at garage / yard sales, but here in SC, have never once found a pipe that way. I wish. I do find them now and then at antique shops...but typically it's low end pipes which are worth about what they're asking. Now and then, a gem though! The hunt is half the fun though, isn't it?

Congrats and enjoy. I like Big Ben pipes. When a pipe is marked Presidential, it often indicates better than average quality. You better keep it locked up or it will send out rude tweets while you are sleeping. 🐒
