Upon lighting, I sense dull oak, plum, and a pleasant citrusy sweetness. There’s also a dry sweetness that’s reminiscent of Dry Sack. This must be the sherry topping.
The smoke is sweet and flavorful until the halfway point, when the spicy perique takes the lead. The sweetness remains, lurking in the background.
It’s just shy of a medium body blend. I didn’t notice the nicotine until after the halfway mark. It’s strongest near the bottom, but not overwhelming.
The bowl can get warm with fast puffing, but the taste is never harsh. It burns at a moderate pace.
Irish Oak is a nice change of pace for VaPer fans. For those interested in trying a VaPer, this is a good blend to start with.

Excellent review Sam, definitely how I’d describe this blend from what I remember a few years back. The Sherry note too me as well was Dry Sack, also a Sherry I used prior too cook with, especially sautéed portobello mushroom caps with shallots! This was a blend I preferred sipping, I guess more complex for me, everyone is different. Appreciate all the time you put into your well written reviews 👍👍👍

well well well...guess what I have in my cellar...
Today, if I get the chance, I will try a bowlful of Irish Oak and see if I can detect ANY of this. I'll report back, but maybe not in this thread cos I don't want to hijack Sam's great work.
Again, a great review in keeping with the high standard you have set.

Thanks again, Sam. I was wondering about this flavoring--"citronella." I trust it is not related to the mosquito repellent coastal folks around here burn in their tiki torches.

Legend LoverThank you for you’re support. But please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts here. I’m just having fun , and it distracts my mind that’s racing like a NASCAR driver. williamI had no idea what citronella was until I looked it up: cit·ron·el·la ˌ noun 1. a fragrant natural oil used as an insect repellent and in perfume and soap manufacture. I don’t think I could detect ‘the fragrant natural oil’ it if was against my nose!

Ok, so I tried hard and I think I got some of the plum or maybe the sherry??? Not sure, but there was an element of something alcoholic / liqueur about it. That's about it. Still, I'm glad I got that.
Thanks Sam.

What I want to do now is try other blends and see if I get the same taste. I'm hoping I don't and therefore what I tasted was from the Irish oak and I did actually manage to discern some sort of flavour. Fingers crossed.

When I’m trying to discern what I’m smoking, I focus on the smoke, while letting my mind wander .... Sort of like a meditation, if that makes sense. When I focus intently, i miss a lot. This is all new to me. I’m learning more everyday and I’m having fun with it.
