Well, I braved the mugginess this morning to try White Knight. I thought I had bought the tin I had from P&C, but when I turned it over it had 11/14 written on the label, so it was either gifted to me or purchased from someone's cellar.
Opening it the tin note was strong latakia. That doesn't scare me off like it used to, lol. I lit it up, and it was a nice aroma. Not overpowered with latakia, but mellow and harmonious. It had a hint of softness, almost sweet to it. It was rich, warm and complex (or maybe deep is a better word). I didn't really distinguish any individual components to it, but that is just me, I don't have a very discerning palate.

This tobacco is definitely not an overwhelmingly strong Latakia blend. It’s a smooth, cool and tasty extremely enjoyable smoke. Smokes well in a briar but something about smoking this fine blend in a good Cob, it’s a bit sweeter!!! You’ll get plenty of creamy smoke with a slight woodsy aroma. Does not need many re-lighting and will smoke to a fine ash to the bottom. Very pleasant taste from start to finish, leaves a nice taste to the palate. One of my top three Balkan blends on the market today, with NO chemical after taste. Definitely a repeatable smoke during the course of the day, especially if your a Balkan fan, R.O. nailed this blend which is very similar too the original Balkan Sobranie 759 👌👍

I have tried this baccy from 3 different "sources" over the last 6 months or so. Having made an effort to introduce Latakia into my cellar I have sampled various blends and this one has been gifted to me 2x and I bought a tin. The one thing I will say right off the bat is I believe there is a batch problem with Russ's blends once they went out of house. I swear that they are never the same and that is a shame because this blend, along with anni kake, would be an everyday smoke for me if they could consistently get it right. One batch of this was terrific, smooth, sweet, woodsy, tangy, it is all there. A definite 5/5. Great Oriental presence. One batch was bland and almost tasteless 1/5. The tin I bought was somewhere in between maybe a 3/5. I will not cellar it due to the inconsistent blending (same as anni kake) but will visit it from time to time.

thank you You're welcome.... Sorry, I should have written, 'no worries'. Do you mean you should have written "no problem"? Sounds like you have been watching too many Crocodile Dundee movies. But no worries, mate.

Correct, try and find the thin tins as opposed to tins that are used in C&D and GLP blends. I was gifted the FAT tins and the blend did not smoke well for me as well. The Fat tins are missing some of the Orientals, best way I can describe the problem. Plus....R.O. is very much into developing wines......so who’s throwing his recipes together?

Finally popped my tin open today. It has a mellow but somewhat spicy smell and the cut is a little more coarse than most of my other tobaccos. The tin has every color from a goldish light brown to black which seems to be a good distribution of each tobacco.
15-20 minute dry time.
I filled my Grabow Freehand and left it a little more springy than I usually do. It lit well and burned nicely until I got busy talking with the neighbor and it went out halfway through the bowl. I actually liked it more after the relight.
I pick up a lot of spiciness(?) along with a woody flavor, like chewing on a stick, more than anything. Once in a while I get the taste of the smokey latakia. Overall it was very mellow and I could see myself smoking this blend all day.
Was a nice cool, dry smoke and burned down to a fine white/grey ash with very little moisture at the bottom of the bowl.
Good pick CGVT. Time to add a few tins to my next order.

I have a tin of this in the cellar, dated 2014, thin tin, metal screw top. This was gifted to me and well, I don't do Latakia. More than happy to pay it forward to anyone in the CONUS who does like Lat. Shoot me a PM if interested.

You might really enjoy the other components that make this a wonderful smooth tasty tobacco.

I'm starting to think the glory of English (Balkan whatever) is when they have time to sit. Like a stew in the pot, they become so smooth and blended with age. I prefer it that way. Just me though. I haven't opened any myself. I was so infatuated with the Black House I bought along with my White Knight, that I haven't had a chance to smoke it. Nice reading your first experience. Im excited. Thanks.

And I think I found her a new home.

I haven't smoked any of mine in quite a while and wanted to have a chance to sit and really try to figure it out before I review it. Maybe in a day or two...

Popped open my tin from 2014 and have smoked it in several different pipes now. It's just as I remembered it to be and a tasty Balkan blend. My only complaint is that the burn is fussy. Interestingly, when I looked at the reviews on TR.com, it's mostly from 2014-2015 that this was mentioned by a few of the reviewers. Even with a fair amount of dry time, some of the strands of tobacco will still "ball up" which makes me suspect a humectant of some type in at least one of the leaves. Nonetheless, a few more relights is all that's required and the Orientals are delicious.

I finally got a chance to sit down and put some thought into smoking this tonight. I bought a tin back in December 2015 and smoked some in July 2016 then jarred it in August. Back when I tried it, I just wasn't into it so, I jarred it and put it away.
When I opened it and took a sniff, my first impression was of oak smoke and incense. Very pleasant.
I gravity packed it into my Savinelli 404 Bent Dublin and lit it with a Diamond kitchen match.
The first thing I taste is a mild woodsy, smokey taste and the same incense that I smelled with the wood/smoke being the more dominant flavor. There is a just a hint of spice, kind of peppery and very little bit of sweetness that lingers on my lips and tip of my tongue. It is very enjoyable.
About half way through the bowl it becomes amazing. It is hard for me to describe, but it just kind of comes together. The incense fads a bit and there is a little citrus now that adds to the mix. The pepper has faded and it is very creamy although every now and then the pepper comes back to remind me that it is there.
As I smoke this, I feel as if I should be sitting in a large large leather chair in the library of an English manor sipping on a snifter of brandy. Ha!
I think this is really, really good; a sit down and think about it smoke for when I have time to pay attention to it.

It’s nice to see there’s so much participation and good feedback with our BOMs. I smoked a bowl earlier this week, and am looking forward to another tonight.

Been a little busy the last couple weeks, thank you to Lady Margaret for getting the thread started in my absence. I've finally got my tin open and it's not what I expected. A lot lighter and sweeter than I thought. It's still a wonderful blend. I just expected more latakia.
