I take the position that options are nice, I have heard of cigarbid before, and although I have never registered or bid on any items, I see no difference of a new poster telling us about a Smokingpipes promotion.

One thing that I can say about all of you who have participated in this discussion so far, is that you are all very intelligent, and respectful of differing opinions. I think that it's great that we can all share like this, and hopefully carry this into future discussions.

The irony is that I would be tempted to check out cigarbid if I wasn't in the UK.

It is items for sale and violates the 100 post count as required by the Patch guidelines.

Items for sale pertains to items being sold by Forum members. That was not the case here. qmechanics was selling nothing.

It seems a bit off kilter to say that Lee is part of or affiliated with Cigarbid.Cigarbid,C.I., P&C,and Cigars.com are part of the same company. A well established and known entity. They would not need to resort to spamming to drum up business. Lee's failure to logon since and his negligible participation prior to that post make it suspect. But since he did not embed a link,I'm more inclined to think he was just over zealous.Perhaps a newer pipe smoker. He was excited and wanted to share that excitement with us.I would not be surprised if he was lurking as a guest prior to and now gauging our response. (if mentioning the site name is considered a link I apologize for misunderstanding)

I just noticed he posted the exact same thing on PipesMag, but since he's participated at least a bit in other stuff there over the past few months I don't think he's a cbid shill.

lol Man sorry for pointing out an opportunity that I was excited about. For the record, I do not work for cbid or any tobacconist. When I work I blast things, ionizing them for further study.
Who knew that two posts,my introduction and cbid comments, would find conspiratorial theories and theorists (With a nice dose of saner comments as well.) enjoying themselves so muchπ? It makes me wonder just how many folks closely follow the John Birch Society,UFOs,New World Order, Illuminati, Truthers and the like and/or are simply off their medsπ? Still, I had a real good chuckle reading a number of comments.Though this might not be the best way to start (yes point understood), one has to say it has been memorable though inadvertent on my part..
No offense intended.....
Move along move along nothing to see here π.
PS I trust folks will know when I am joking . Just in case, I added a few π = teasing joking etc.

For the record I did reply to similar theories/theorists π in my introduction post/thread. Maybe something can be learned by these events? lol
PS Sorry I cannot respond to all the conspiratorial types but let me say in closing Yes!!!They are out there!!π

Perhaps it is best if I respond to one other group of comments. As stated,I do not work for any tobacco company store etc. I do not have (nor did I have)items to sell and would not do so in accordance with the rules.
PS These comments I find problematic as folks unsubstantiated suspicions were leading some to think I was breaking rules. I feared the comfy chair was coming next!!! A bit of mob mentality at work!!! Silly humans that I do take note of π!!! PS We are out there!!! π

haebar"Thanks for the info, Lee. I have purchased pipe tobacco and pipes there in the past. The shipping rates are what made me finally close my account with them. I had won a large quantity of tins and a pipe or two and they were going to charge me an outrageous amount for shipping, over $40.Β Once I got a new Peterson pipe there and when I received it, discovered that it had been smoked. That would have been okay had I known that I was paying for a used pipe. But they replaced it with a new one after I sent the used one back to them. Is the pipes and pipe tobacco a separate section of the website now? I know that when I was using their site that you had to search for "pipe" to find the pipe stuff." Hi Haebar, I thank you for taking my post as intended and the polite conversation. I have used cigarbid (cbid) for years, largely for cigar purchases. When I was more active on cbid, there were few pipe & pipe tobacco related items for auction. Now not only do they have a section "Pipes and Pipe Tobacco" but offer 100-160 or so items a day (Depending on when the auctions end and start on a given day.). The short answer is yesπ. The question I ask in return is did cbid start selling this many pipe items when your account was active (I had been far less active for more than a year and stumbled onto the new section when I was running low on a few A.J. Fernandez cigars.)? I agree the shipping cost is a problem and turn off. For those who do not know, cbid typically charges 5.99, 6.99 or so for the largest/heaviest pipe related item and adds 1.00 for each item after the first (I believe a five pack and single cigar categories ship for less after the initial charge.). To counter the shipping issue and form a good price point, when I bid I take into account the shipping, regular prices online, online sale prices, past bidding trends, the discount I wish to receive, etc. and set my price accordingly. If I lose I wait for another auction. So far when I compare my total price (cost with shipping) to other stores prices for the same items w/o shipping (takes into account free shipping typically offered when the purchase is above a minimum amount.), I come up ahead (Typically 25-50% off the total); even with online stores' sales taken into account (This does not mean Smoking Pipes, Tobacco Pipes, Cup O'Joes, P&C and others do not have sales which compete with a product or two once in a while.). The key is to know one's product and the price one should set while being firm. Cigarbid best serves those who enjoy a variety of smokes or are at least willing to try new things. With pipes and accessories, nice discounts are always there and require less planning. There are also a few good cigars that can increase your bottom line savings. One thing that perplexed me is the used pipe you received. For the record that has never happened to me. Cigars international is the thrust behind cigarbid. With the company's volume of business, I believe an odd occurance or two is possibleπ. Maybe the pipe suffered from a midnight smoke down by the warehouse in Bethlehem, PA USA or Dublin, Irelandπ? I guess I should stop there. Crowds are probably gathering with pitch forks and fire.....chanting.....Burn him!!! Burn him!!!π Paranoia breeds paranoia!!!π
