Hi
Cigarbid.com now has an auction section , "Pipes and Pipe Tobacco" , devoted to pipe smoking products. They rotate in some of the same products from week to week with the new additions (It is good to check in each day for additional items being put up for bid.). Cigarbid has everything from Captain Black to Dunhill tobaccos from 1.5oz to 1 lb bags, pipe tools, lighters, bags and pipe care products.
Some of the bids I won include John Cotton blends from 5.00 - 6.00 a tin and Orlik Golden Slices 3.5 oz tin 8.50 etc. (Recently I decided to try a few aromatics for a change of pace.). I also bid on a 1lb bag of Lane RLP and Captain Black Copper and Dark in 12 ounce cans just for fun and won them for 17, 13, and 15 respectively ( I never purchased drug store tobacco before and decided to try a can of Captain Black. For the price why not?.). Captain Black Copper ,the first of the above I smoked, is not bad at all; Not to wet, PG much lighter than expected, no bite, pleasant flavor(One can taste the tobacco along with the casing) and room note etc.,
There are also many pipes mostly Stanwell, Big Ben etc. with a few Petersons, Drew Estate(Tsuge), Savinelli and Nording pipes here and there. I have seen Stanwells' Pipe of the Year and Hans Christian Andersen pipes sell for around 50 brand new.
Keep in mind Cigarbid.com is an auction webpage so prices vary, overbidding occurs etc. Cigarbid.com requires basic registration and a credit card on file.
Best Lee
PS The company had some problems a year ago due to their POS software upgrade. These issues have now disappeared. Before bidding please note the shipping costs and place your shipping method to weekly (Weekly accumulation of items for a lower shipping rate ).

Lee, may we assume that you're affiliated with cigarbid.com?

This is an easy one guys. Please don't log on to any site this guy refers you to, even to look. This guy's nothing to do with pipes, everything to do with 'requires basic registration', and your credit card number.

I have purchased pipe tobacco and pipes there in the past. The shipping rates are what made me finally close my account with them. I had won a large quantity of tins and a pipe or two and they were going to charge me an outrageous amount for shipping, over $40. Once I got a new Peterson pipe there and when I received it, discovered that it had been smoked. That would have been okay had I known that I was paying for a used pipe. But they replaced it with a new one after I sent the used one back to them. Is the pipes and pipe tobacco a separate section of the website now? I know that when I was using their site that you had to search for "pipe" to find the pipe stuff.

Although I can't render much of an opinion on Cigarbid's overall reputation, they are a legitimate site, and have been around for many years.

I didn't read the post as an 'ad'. Since I was already familiar with Cigarbid, I knew that they required a Credit Card be on file. (One of the reasons that I never joined). Many sites now require that. I don't think that qmechanics was trying to 'scam' anyone. That's my ¢.02 FWIW.

If he posts again I’ll agree with you👍 Not one of the online B&M’s I buy from require a credit card on file, they ask if I’d like to keep one on file. The only two I use that require a credit card on file is eBay and PayPal.

Ok, maybe not a total scam, but the guy needs to learn you don't ask for a credit card number to play with him after two posts.

I see your point, but most reputable businesses don’t require a credit card on file....they ask “ would you like to keep this credit card on file with us “. At least that’s the way I’m asked.

It is a strange post but I use Cigar Bid all the time. It's part of the STG CI family. You have to have a CC on file for eBay and I have mine on file with all the onlines I keep standing orders with.

It would have been better to say something like: Hey guys, I'm new here, but I'm with a site that sells pipes and tobacco (or I'm not with them, just shop there). Come check us out if you want; here's the link, then we would have asked if anyone has done business there to validate him.
Making your second post about a site where you can buy tobacco if you give some 'registration information' and a credit card number, really sounds like a scam. I hear they had a scam on the interwebs once.

True...it's not an 'ad'...it's a promotion...on his first post after a quick intro. I've been on enough forums in my day to render an opinion that this is not the way to make your entry. Unless he is simply new to forums in general, this sure has the scent of SPAM to me.

For some of you out there, I don't think that you understand that Cigarbid is an auction site, just like Ebay. Would you expect them to accept bids from persons that weren't registered? Bid $1000 for a pipe, and then never pay! Of course they're going to ask for a credit card, or other means of payment. I guess what gets me about this whole thing is that everyone seems to think that the person who posted this message had something to gain. Again, IMHO, that's not what he intended.

I just don't see anything wrong with the Post.

I never said CigarBid is non-legit, it's not. Let me say this, then I'm done. I believe his post is spam because it appears to be the indiscriminate distribution of promotional information to a good-sized audience (the definition of internet spam). I've seen it many times..."new members" on forums who join for the sole purpose of posting links / promotions pointing to sites they're either somehow related to, gain some kind of benefit from, or they just want to help the site...only to disappear and contribute nothing more. If qmechanics exits with that as his only actual post, it is spam. If he proves us wrong, I'll very gladly make him feel welcome.

I'd agree with you're assessment if I could find any way that this could be SPAM, or that the originator of this post would benefit in any way. We may have scared away a new member!

I think this horse has been beaten to death now 😂😂 I don't think so, only because of the fact that the guy who posted this was totally unaware, and had nothing to gain from his post. Not the typical greeting that we should present on the Patch!
