Is anyone here a fan of this band?
I've been a fan since I was about 14. Great music, these guys really had a sense of humour, too.

Yep, fun Philly band. And, a staple on early alternative radio.

Yep, fun Philly band. And, a staple on early alternative radio. U2 and REM were alternative staples as well in the same timeframe but the Dead Milkmen did so much better.... And let's not forget the Dead Kennedys either. Total class outfit....not. However, the Psychedelic Furs definitely deserve a shoutout when talking great 80s alternative bands.

You made it 1:13 more than me.
Not exactly my cup of tea. Doors, Led Zeppelin, Who, Stones, AC/DC, etc
To each their own.

All I know is that this is my favorite pipe forum for many reasons including kindly discussions of pipes, tobaccos, cigars, and now the Dead Milkmen. If we can start a Jim Steranko thread, I'll be in heaven.

I remember the Dead Kennedys, (yes they were a band) but not the Dead Milkmen.

You can tell who are the older codgers. Sorry, but that just isn't music to me. But please enjoy what you like!

Never heard of this group prior, guess from a different era. However, I did listen for just over a minute and all I can say is....OUI
PS Different strokes for different folks, nothing wrong with that.

I remember seeing this band's name around, but never heard them. Judging by these videos, I guess they're in same camp as Flipper or even Angry Samoans (though less puerile).
Dead Kennedys were one of greatest US punk bands.

Earl turns to me, and he says, "Do you ever go to make a pork sausage, and find that it's got hairs all over it?" and he gives me a look that still chills me to this day

I like some punk rock. I was serious into the more lighthearted punk bands in the 80s and 90s- the angry Samoans were another favourite of mine. I also liked the band fear. My main problems with punk are kind of two fold. First, a lot of the music sounds the same. Second, the punk scene has always had that sort of edgy, mean vibe to it. I got into the grateful dead and the neohippie thing in the 80s and 90s. I am much more into friendlier, gentler, mellower I vibes.

Most definitely not my “ cup of tea “! All that comes to mind are the milkmen that use to deliver milk and bread to our front door back in the 50’s are now DEAD!

I think part of the key to appreciating them is they were as much about social satire and comedy as they were about music. Maybe even more so about the former than the latter. Also punk was almost an anti-music in itself. It stiffly rejected high brow music and art culture.

They were big when I was at Ohio State. Right up there with Bauhaus, The Butthole Surfers and the Dead Kennedys.

Classic SNL appearance and a highlight of the Decline of Western Civilization movie.
