So normally, in the morning I browse new posts. Then, throughout the day I would pop on and see if anything new's posted. In the evening, when most of the action is starting, I have a wee look if possible.
Today is one of those days when the busyness of life got in the way and I couldn't get on much to check in. Good grief it's taken me ages to get caught up.
How do you guys do it?
And, I looked up strawberry wood on Google cos of a post here and found a post in pipemagazine's forum...and there most of you all are! With 5 times the post-count than here.
I signed up to the new PSF a month or so ago, but haven't been on since. I feel it's kinda cheating on the patch (i know it's not), but there's no way I could keep up with BOTH forums!

Been their, done that and now I’m only here! LL, right now time is all I have, prior to November of 2011 I never had the time to sit back and relax. So I guess now I’m making up for those times lost and take my life day at a time!

I don't keep up. I have some eye issues that are getting worse. Funny that I quit wearing glasses. It's harder to concentrate for too long. My Criteria
1) The subject grabs me 2) The poster who created the thread posts stuff I try to keep up with 3) New members, though we have so many now I know I am missing some 4) For the moment I gave up on WAYS thread. There's just too much for me to keep up with now. I don't even try. Sadly, this is one of the most important threads in the joint.
Re: Chat - I know not asked. I spent so many years after my neck injury in chat room and chatting with people. I have one friend I chat with, and have been, for close to twenty years. Even that is hard on my eyes. This person saw me through some years of depression after my injury. I barely remember depression anymore, and this person was key to that. So, I'll always be there for him. Overall though, chat requires me staring at my screen waiting for someone to type. I wish this club were around twenty years ago. I would have parked my butt in the chatroom 24/7
Bottom line: Harder to concentrate. When I type a post it's a stream of consciousness... and requires no eye strain.

I hit the drop down menu on recent posts, and click on what is new that grabs my attention, or one that I had previously posted on.
I do miss a lot, because with limitations on time at work, and duties at home, more often than not, I use my IPhone.... And it shows in my miss-spellings.
I do miss a lot of content though.

I'm retired and this is the only forum to which I belong. I keep up by using the touch pad on my Google Chromebook or clicking my mouse.

The "Recent Threads" functions on these kinds of forums are designed for busy folks who don't have time to break open each section to browse through new topics, search for the latest posts, etc., and even for those who do try to keep up with each section but are likely to miss something current. It works as intended for me...I "live" in the Recent Threads tab...and when I've got time, I scroll a lot further down than just the top 5 or 10. If I have some time to kill (not often), I'll drive through section by section to see what I'm interested in; there may be a topic or two which may not have been touched in the last few days...but that I might have something worthwhile to contribute to. It's also good to peruse around if you've been away for a day or more, because there's sure to be topics you could contribute to which are not going to be near the top of the Recent Threads tab. But...I see Recent Threads as the most efficient way to keep up...at least on the latest stuff.
I was given the boot long ago from PSF. I had no squabbles, picked on NOBODY, and was never told why. I think I may have been friends with someone else who got the boot, that's the best I could figure. I'm involved on 2 other forums...but I find myself participating here more and more. Great group of folks here!

Same here joeman.....I had enough of the shark attacks and asked to have my membership closed. Here is the only place I’ll be! No cut throating here and know it all’s...I think you get my drift. I’m retired/disabled and those days I can’t do much of anything I’m on here, if not working on one of my many projects I’ve started. Really is a bunch of friendly people within this forum and we’re lucky too also have Lady M, who has much too offer this forum and keep everyone on their toes...lol. I like her👌👍 Smart gal for sure!

I don't try to keep up. I'll read posts from people that have said interesting and thoughtful things in previous posts. I'll also scan the recent threads to see what's new.

I joined a couple other forums. One has good info, but nobody posts. One has too much info, too many people post, and some just like to hear themselves talk. I like this place best. It might just be my favorite forum ever.
There was one post here, a while ago, that bordered on pretty political, although unintentionally. The outcome was UNHEARD OF by recent internet standards - the parties agreed to disagree, and left it at that. Although it took some minor moderation, it didn't get out of hand, and ended in civility. I was so astonished, I decided that this place was well worth my time and investment.
Also, I just check in on my phone throughout the day, and check to see if there's anything new in the sections.

I try to keep up by opening subjects that sound interesting to me. Doesn't matter to me who posted the original, as long as the topic is of interest to me. I do follow a few people due to overlapping interests or what I perceive as a kindred spirit. I will read posts from almost everyone here sooner or later.

For myself,I'll check on threads that I've posted in or started.I'll scan thru thread titles for ones that catch mu interests. But in truth, other than work,I have no life. So I read the forums, yes I'm on a couple. I also play a farm game on FB and follow JimInks's puns.Today he shared a picture of his cat attacking him and eating his face.

Eventually, I see everything of interest to me. Used to be on ASP and a few others, no more. People have manners here.

I'm a speed reader. See that button that says "Mark All Read". Click, boom, done. Then I pick and choose from what interests me.

I live in the recent threads tab too. I think we're just getting busier. Word must have got out that this is the place to be.

I can tell you it's almost impossible to keep up with everything. I'm lucky if I can peek in once every few days, just to make sure the place hasn't imploded.
As far as it being the best forum out there... that's a testament to all of you as members.

I'm sure that no forum will be the perfect experience for everyone all the time...but there seems to be a lot of respect and restraint here...which I've seen lacking to some degree on other boards.

I do haunt a couple of forums, but am pretty selective about what I read and what I post. I come and go in waves a bit, but post here most frequently.

Being retired has its advantages in posting and reading the forum news. I enjoy 2 other forums, one seems to be dying a slow death, another has a lot of information and, of course, the Briar Patch has a great number of the best folks from the other forums. Sure am glad I am retired. Not so glad that I am disabled also, but at my age I'm in pretty good health all things considered. This group of folks seem to be the best mannered. That goes a long way with me.

I also work have not retired yet even though my body wishes I could, also managed a Sunday school class which takes a lot of my time other than work, was like many of you other fine folks trying to keep up with two forms, found it to be almost impossible for me, and also knowing that I'm not not on here much, but the time that I do spend here is very enjoyable thanks to all you great guys and gals.

I do miss quite a bit (evidently being talked about, lol) and sometimes I catch up. i usually follow the threads I've participated in until they no longer pop up and then go looking for new threads to read, and that's where I'm at now -- and finding out I'm quite the object of conversation I decided to start smoking a pipe in October 2016, so I got online to find information. I ended up on PSF. They were very helpful and because of excellent advice I received there I smoked my first bowl on October 15. However, just a month and a half later I could suddenly no longer access the site and all my emails to the webmaster went unanswered. I was a ship adrift and had to start hunting for a new home. A little over 24 hours later, I was here, and haven't looked back. We have a family atmosphere here. I don't have time to keep up with several forums, so this is where I camp out and don't regret it a bit.
