Has anyone got the mm freehand? Is it a good pipe? Is it a bit too big?
Any thoughts, good or bad would be appreciated.

The free hand bowl diameter is between.75 and .85 inches. The depth between 1.75 and 2.25 inches. It is a long smoke when I smoke mine I put 2 PS LNF in it and it will last over an hour. It come down to your personal choice. Since you are looking at the free hand also look at the general.
Edit : I have to add if you can find the Cobbit Wizard it is same bowl as the general with a different shape.

john_r, both good choices!! LL, shop around on eBay, I’ve seen the Freehand at a much lower price. Also a seller on Amazon has them at a very reasonable price. Hope you have a few Country Gentleman pipes in your Cob collection, superb smokers. I bought a few on Amazon for $10,65 each with Prime shipping

I love mine. I had to repair a split in the shank, something that has happened to at least three of my cobs. Still, with the softer material, they fix up well. It's a great smoke

I know Peter posts one every now and then, absolutely beautiful pipes. My biggest questions are cost, availability and functionality? P&C seems to be out of stock whenever they have their sales. Anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but they cost approximately three times an MM General. The bowls are relatively similar in dimension; consequently, although the General isn't nearly as pretty, the General appears the bigger bang for buck and probably equal from a functional standpoint?

I have an older, unsmoked one on the wooden plaque mount, that I bought on a whim. I will probably never smoke it. I have been thinking of offering it for trade at some point. Just too big for my smoking preferences. Really nice looking cob though.

I agree, but in the past month I’ve noticed the MM Freehand have dropped in price drastically on some online sites, like eBay and Amazon. The original price for me was ridiculous. I’ll make my own👍

I wouldn't sell mine for $100 - one of my best smokers. Everything I throw in it burns wonderfully.

I love mine too! I have the older model that didn't have the metal cap one the end of the shank, so it's prone to splitting from time to time. The newer pipes have the metal end on the shank so no problems. One nice thing too is that they come with a vulcanite stem instead of the wimpy plastic stems so I find it more comfortable to smoke.

...I have several and they are excellent smokers...The bowls are larger than standard...however, there are times I only fill it halfway for a shorter smoke...

I have two. They're good smokers. I like 'em neked and prefer the redheads over the blondes. Try Aristocob, you can specify what you want and Scott's a good guy to deal with and cheaper than buying direct from MM. aristocob.com/FREEHAND-C351371.aspx?sid=15455

The freehand cob is going to, or has gone to an acrylic stem. I don't know if there is remaining stock at mm, but that was the latest video posted by dan and phil along with the 7 day sets of seconds. Please forgive my capitalization my thumbs aren't playing nice this evening.

Thanks everyone. I may consider picking one up later in the year. Of course I have to get mine from the UK which is cheaper than paying shipping from USA, I think.

I don't have a Freehand, but like it. I agree with the others here - go for it! I'm sure you'll be happy with it. I have a MM General (bent) and it's wonderful. I've reserved it for GH Lakelands which smoke beautifully in it.
