As some of you know, I have a job that requires that I travel pretty much every week. Add to this the fact that my wife's family lives in Oklahoma and my folks live in AZ, we end up out of town quite a bit over the year.
The last month was no exception. My travels included Chicago twice, MD & DE, NY & CT, GA & FL, as well as several locations in NC & SC. Added to this was our trip out west. Blondie and our two youngest kids, 19 & 21, left mid month and drove out to OK as well as NM, CO, UT & eventually AZ where I flew out and met them @ my folks place in the White Mountains.
We then drove back together form AZ to OK, and then pulled an allnighter and drove straight through back home to NC.
As part of my routine I usually get online and try to find local pipe shops or cigar bars in whatever town I find myself.
Through all of this I usually take a couple of my pipes and a baggie or two of tobacco. It is my practice to try to pick up a tin or two of tobacco @ the various shops I visit. Not that I need any extra tobacco, but doing my small part to keep these last vestiges of American History alive.
While in DE I found a local brewery and restaurant that had an outdoor dining area and a smoking area...
After Dinner I sat in the smoking area and enjoyed some MM965 in my Travlin Bent Bulldog...
While in Buffalo I found a shop, The Smokers Haven, that has been there since the 70's...
It had thousands of pipes, a lot of bulk blends and a fairly respectable selection of tins. Sadly the prices were astronomical due to the NY Tobacco taxes. :-(
Here's their smoking lounge area....
The shop owners are also pipe carvers...
They had an incredible selection of Meers...
The small black rectangle is my iPhone. That thing was huge!
When I flew out to AZ to meet up with Blondie and the kids (I had to work the week they drove out) I landed in Tucson and met up with Fellow Piper Gary Y. We met my daughter and her boyfriend for dinner and then found our way back to Gary's to enjoy a few beers and many bowls of Great Tobacco.
Gary has an incredible selection of very fine briars, one of which is worth more than almost all of my 90+ pipes combined...
Gary enjoyin one of his Beautiful Briars....
The true master of the castle is Gary's room mate Alexander...
After spending the night with Gary I made my way up to the mountains and met up with my wife, kids and my folks. In the evenings I found my way out to their back deck and enjoyed a bowl or two, sipped some cold Corona and watched the dozens of Humming Birds.
The time went way too fast and before we knew it we had to start out way back home.
On the way out we stopped in Holbrook and spent a little time @ the Wigwam Motel...
We also stopped by the Petrified Forest and also spent some time in their cafe and souvenir shop. While perusing the old photos there I ran across this one....
Look a little closer...
I wonder what make of pipe that was and what he was smoking?
We stopped in TX and spent some time @ the Cadillac Ranch...
Throughout all of this I had either a pipe or a cigar close by. Not only to enjoy but to maybe promote the finer things in life.
Well, that's it for now. I'll try to make an effort to add more pics as the months go by and would love to see others post their "Travelin Pipe" exploits here as well.
Take care

God Bless
