So that sore throat I had a few weeks ago is still here. Feels like my throat is dry all the time.
I haven't a clue what's causing it. Maybe it's the increased use of air con. Maybe it's that blue green algae I inhaled.
Of course, my default is throat cancer cos I've got a lot of the symptoms. I'm convinced it's not that, or if it is it's not from pipe smoking since I smoke 1 bowl every week or fortnight on average and I only started 2 years ago. Or if it is I'm extremely unlucky.
In my whole life I've probably smoked the equivalent of a week's worth of some of you guys.
Anyway. I'm going to phone the doc on Monday and book an appointment. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Gargle a few times daily with warm salt water. Works every time for me. Look in 5he back of your throat with a flashlight and check for white spots or redness on either side of your throat. Cold be a minor infection or a bad sinus drip. Feel better soon...ππππππππππππ

I worked on a printing press my final years of working. Plenty chemicals that the company said were safe enough to drink. I lost my voice for six months once. People would still want to hold long distance conversations, yelling across the room, knowing they couldn't hear me. An Ear, Nose, and Throat Dr. I went to told me the warm salt water, but to also drink water with a lot of ice cubes in it, and that helped. Recently, like the other day, I got some Belladonna online and dissolve five beads under my tongue and much of my normal inflammation has decreased. Belladonna is Nightshade, which could kill you, but I got mine from Amazon and followed directions. Evidently it doesn't take much. LL, will have you in my thoughts and prayers. I would not worry about cancer, but some other issue. David

When this happens to me I switch over to swedish snus and put the pipe down entirely for at least 3-5 days.
I've discovered that the salt does help to soothe the sore throat considerably. Have that looked at though, it could be a bacterial, viral, or even fungal infection

I am remembering now that in Ireland they've banned all dips, as with the rest of the EU and UK. Sweden is the only country that they've allowed to continue manufacturing and using dips in. You could always make your own, so to speak, with some snuff and a pinch of salt, and just dip that. You could also maybe find someone willing to mail some into you. Customs aren't really on the lookout for tobacco.

Gargle a few times daily with warm salt water. Works every time for me. +1 on the salt water ... soothing to the mucous membranes. Hydrogen Peroxide also can be quite effective. Dilute the store bought stuff (3%) 2:1 with water and gargle ... actually kills more organisms than the salt water. Best wishes and take care!

A sore throat lasting more than a week could be indicative of some underlying serious problem. Reach behind you, grab two handfuls of butt, and carry it to see your doctor right away. Hopefully it will turn out to be something minor.

Some medications can cause dry throat. Thyroid is one that can.

Of course, my default is throat cancer cos I've got a lot of the symptoms. Boy oh boy, do I know that thought process. It's totally irrational. Stay away from WebMD! I have really bad anxiety, and I'm always dying from something. To try to help ease your mind, I'm still recovering from a cold I had two weeks ago. It's just about at the end, but I lived with "lung cancer" for the last two weeks - even with two trips to the Dr., and the assurance that "it's just a cold". You'll be fine. I bet it's something environmental that's turned into some kind of sinus thing. I ALWAYS get sore throat or postnasal drip when seasons change, or when adjusting to the AC or heat being on all the time.

Thank you all. I'm. Sure it's nothing serious, but it's been too long not to get it looked at again. I went to the doc a couple of weeks ago but they couldn't see anything.
I'll try the salt water while i wait for my appointment.
I reckon it might be a combination of the great weather here, maybe a bit of dehydration and more air con in the car. Anyway, best to get it checked out.
I appreciate your thoughts and prayers (for those who pray).

LL, if you see the same doctor and again he/she finds nothing wrong you need too also see an ear, nose and throat specialist.

Well, I'll ask to see a different one (in fact, I THINK I saw a nurse practitioner last time). Anyway, if they can't see anything I'm assuming they'll refer me to an ENT specialist.

As you all may know, I had Pharyngitis about a week ago. First time in my life having it. Not a clue how I got it either.
Thankfully it went away, however.
I pray your symptoms go away as well. Sore throats suck. Get well soon my friend.

I must have missed that thread... it appears that pharyngitis is closely related to strep, which recently has had some horrific strains resulting in the necessity to amputate limbs or die. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PharyngitisNot sure if pharyngitis has had any similar strains, but a quick diagnosis with treatment needs to happen, especially since it is communicable. Not to be confused with Daringitis: The onset that takes place after desert campfire Snuff, it has a crack addict effect on the user, and no cure is wanted.

We've been taught that even walking past a smoker will cause cancer, so this kind of fear is understandable, but improbable. As others have recommended, gargle with salt water, try not to worry, and go see an ENT.

I hope you get over that soon. Sometimes googling stuff medical is going to help you figure it out but without medical training you may not do more than scare yourself.
Go to the doc let him figure it out.

Persistent problems in the day of super bugs aren't something to leave alone. It's a pain, but getting it checked out is the right thing to do.
Then again, medical malpractice kills lots of people, so damned if you do, damned if you don't.
See a doc and do the gargle thing.

Cheers for the check up antb. I've gargled every day for the last few days with salt water. My throat has more of a tickle than anything else. Still feels like there's something stuck in it. I've got a doctor's appointment next Tuesday afternoon (a week from now) so we'll see what he says.

A week from tomorrow, thatβs insane!! Get ready to cancel your appointment because by Thursday your throat should be back to normal. If not then see the doctor next week. Also drink tea and honey and plenty of water.
