Cheers for the check up antb . I've gargled every day for the last few days with salt water. My throat has more of a tickle than anything else. Still feels like there's something stuck in it. I've got a doctor's appointment next Tuesday afternoon (a week from now) so we'll see what he says. Glad your feeling a bit better. Keep gargling a few times daily. A week from tomorrow, that’s insane!! Get ready to cancel your appointment because by Thursday your throat should be back to normal. If not then see the doctor next week. Also drink tea and honey and plenty of water. I'm hoping that post is prophetic.

Feel better @legend Lover. I pray the Dr. appointment is not necessary (when the time comes).

So I'm just back from the doctor who said that they didn't know what's causing my throat problem. I mentioned the pipe and my frequency of pipe-smoking and he kinda shrugged it off.
He didn't think my problem was anything sinister - said something like cancer in this respect would be cumulative and would take time to build up. He can refer me to ENT, but there's a 2 year waiting list for that, so he said to give it a month. If it's not sorted by then I'll go back and he'll refer me to ENT and I'll either be better or dead by the time the appointment comes around.
I'm fine otherwise, so the doctor isn't concerned.
It may just be something I have to live with for a while longer.
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers (for those who did).

So that sore throat I had a few weeks ago is still here. Feels like my throat is dry all the time. I haven't a clue what's causing it. Maybe it's the increased use of air con. Maybe it's that blue green algae I inhaled. Of course, my default is throat cancer cos I've got a lot of the symptoms. I'm convinced it's not that, or if it is it's not from pipe smoking since I smoke 1 bowl every week or fortnight on average and I only started 2 years ago. Or if it is I'm extremely unlucky. In my whole life I've probably smoked the equivalent of a week's worth of some of you guys. Anyway. I'm going to phone the doc on Monday and book an appointment. I would appreciate your thoughts. Are the glands in your neck swollen? Make sure your MD takes a throat swab and cultures it. That will take overnight for results. This could be Strep Throat which is easily cured with the RIGHT antibiotic, hence the Culture.

Glands weren't swollen and no culture was taken, but doc looked at the throat and didn't see anything that was suspect. Plus, since this has been going on for about 7 weeks now, if it was strep throat, I would think I'd be feverish etc. by now.

Change doctors, even a half assed doctor would have taken a throat culture, not only for streptococcus.

Did I read ‘a two year waiting list for an ENT”? I’m happy you’ve gotten some relief, but I concur with the others, get a second opinion.

Best of luck and try sucking in some throat lozenges.

Welcome to the NHS. If they thought it was something urgent I'd be bumped up the list.

If a man over the age of 60 is diagnosed with prostate cancer in the U.K., hope he has a lot of money put aside. An acquaintance of mine from the U.K. was diagnosed 3 years ago at age 63 with prostate cancer, the people in the town he lives set up a charity fund drive and raised enough money, thank God. People in our great Country complain if we/I can not see a new specialist before 6 weeks. Can you imagine a doctor telling me....” Mr Zinn, you have serious liver issues caused by prolonged use of medications you’ve been taking for a few years, but the earliest I can set up an appointment for you with a hepatologist is roughly 2 years “! I believe I’d go “ POSTAL “ immediately, if not sooner 👍

To be fair, it's not always that bad - at least, not in Northern Ireland. I've heard of a few people who have gone to the GP querying prostate cancer and within a few days they're scanned and starting treatment. That's generally the case over here. In mainland UK it may be different, but we're not that bad here...thankfully.

@lonecoyote and Legend LoverI’ve heard other people’s frustrations. But that’s crazy.
