My mushroom came in, 8 oz in all. Now what do I do with it? Big arse Mason jar? How do I keep it long term?

STM is some great tasting tobacco. Just enough Lat to make you happy if you aren't a Lat lover.

I suggest you store it in 1/2 pint mason jars. This way you’ll only have a couple of ounces open at the time.

What those guys above all said. These are Ball wide mouth jars from Target. You can also get a box of a dozen lids (not rings) for cheap in case you open and close one a lot--stick a new one in just to be on the safe side.

The only problem with wife mouth jars, is that they are not stackable for me. If that is not an issue for you, the wide opening is a plus.
If you are new to mason jars, always look closely at the glass rim and silicone seal on the disc, a small piece of tobacco can compromise the seal... not a big problem in short term storage, but can be long term.
I second the advice on half pint jars.. I do have several half gallon jars that I wish were divvied up into smaller jars, but since they already have some years aging on them, they will be rejarred later than sooner.

William -
I was wondering, do you print out the labels for the wide mouth jars or are you peeling them off the tins and putting them on there? Just curious. Thanks!

I use the Ball labels that dissolve in the sink.

Thanks! exbenedict --I use round Avery labels (22830) available at most office supply stores. Avery has a website where you simply key in your label number and then insert your image. Your final result is a PDF file you can print using your own printer. I just download a picture of the tin from the web, use photo processing software to make a 2 1/2 inch round image, and insert those into the online Avery template. Once you get the hang of it, there's nothing to it.

You are right trailboss. They do not stack well. I suppose their utility would depend on the size of one's "cellar" and how much space is available. This is the best I can do since I cannot really stack them vertically.....

I've kept my pound of Shortcut to Mushrooms in a big Mason jar for about 3 or 4 years now... still fresh as a daisy.

Sorry, not the best picture but a good example of the perfect small jar for me, blends I smoke often and near by in my bedroom. They hold 3 oz of tobacco without packing to firm. The four you see stacked on a shoe shelf are the 3 oz Ball jars available at Walmart. Cost under $9.00 for a dozen and you can always pick up extra lids without replacing the ring. The lids hold up for quite some time, I’m pleased 👌👍 they stack well. For long term storage I use the pint size or quart depending what blend I’m storing and for how long of a period.

I have a TON of 8oz Ball Mason jars. They stack very well. I started off with the more squat variety, and they stack well too, but I like the taller jars better for some reason. They travel well too.

What about the small plastic tubs like what you would use as a tupperdore, the ones with the rubber seal. Or is plastic just a no-no?

Not recommend for long term use, poor seal therefore constant air getting in those plastic containers and may dry out your tobacco’s pretty darn fast. Just my experience.

So by this Theory would my tobacco be safe for 2 weeks in giant prescription pill bottles while I'm in California?
