One of his greatest ever tunes. This will sure send you wartime babies on a trip down memory lane. And if anyone here belongs to the greatest ever generation, perhaps even better memories.

I got so sick of playing "In the Mood " every week when I played in Big Bands, even though I got to play the trumpet solo in it. But at least those songs actually had good melodies, unlike today's music. They have simply run out of new melodies the last 20 years.
My Dad was a Big Band fan, not so much for me....even as an ex drummer I never enjoyed listening to it other than when my Dad had it playing. Give me classic rock any day or even Jazz! Also many of the old Disco songs that had heavy bass and percussion ๐๐ I was never into Rap or Hip Hop!

I am postwar, but not by much. Glen Miller was still popular and young people were j8 dancing to his music in the same fashion as they did with the early rock and roll. I believe part of the demise of big bands is that it's a lot cheaper to manage and travel with 4 or five guys than with 50. Blame it on the electric amplifier.

I hear you... But what is funny is for many decades 1920s-1940s big band WAS JAZZ! It just dominated the genre!

While we are on the topic of big band, lets dive into this little gem, appropriate for the hour:
I love some big band jams. I have these on my playlist.
This specific recording of Midnight was filtered to sound a little creepy for Stanley Kubrickโs move The Shining. The best version of this song in my opinion.
My Dadโs favorite Benny Goodman song....Sing, Sing,Sing.....this song I actually played for my Dad when we went to a club in NYC with my Mom. I knew the drummer of the group and asked if I could play just the one song for my Dadโs 55th Birthday. Of course he obliged and my Mom was thrilled as much as my Dad. Was the good old days in the early 70โs๐๐

I love Glenn Miller, big band, last year of work, I bought a 40 ft Foretravel, wife had a joke potted petunia pot that when you pressed a button on the side the petunias went up and down and whirled around to the tune of In The Mood. So every time we went on a trip I would press the petunia button and away we went.

David, great song....that was re-released as a Disco version on The Best Disco of the 80โs. Was remastered with heavy bass. Sounds outstanding with a pair of good headphones ๐ง. Thanks for posting ๐๐
gav you're saying that Glenn Miller is a gateway drug. I'll go along with that.
@lonecoyote Quite welcome. I have mentioned this before, but I got to see the two (after one died) Andrews Sisters in one of their last performances in Summer Theatre here. Ever year for a few years Dad would let me pick out a play and we would go see one. Andrews Sisters were in a WW2 play called Over Here, along with no name stars John Travolta, Marilu Henner, and Treat Williams. The play was revived a few years ago with all new people. The theatre was outside and was beautiful at night. With Dad I saw that, Brigadoon, Fiddler on the Roof, with Herschel Bernadi, and The Odd Couple. Get this: With Randall and Klugman. After their show was over they took the original play script on the road. It was priceless. The Andrews Sisters quit speaking to each other after that, around 1975, as Maxine didn't get along with Patty's husband.
This is the Andrews Sisters singing Charlie's Place Saturday Night. I put it on my webspace so Legend Lover can check it out without annoying notices saying he's in the wrong country (but the right pub)
David, all great plays and performances I must say, I too had the pleasure of seeing them all. Mostly on Broadway, NYC. Fiddler on the Roof I actually had the pleasure of seeing it on four different occasions.....all great actors playing the part of โ Tevya โ,....Herschel Bernardi, Chiam Topol, Joel โ Zero โ Mostel ( an outstanding comedian ) and lastly Judd Hirsch ( for me, just so so! ). My personal favorite was Topol, one reason......maybe because I personally met him in Israel and also I enjoyed him as well on the screen play in the movies. He was an excellent singer as well๐๐
