The Breaking News is that Brindley's came in an aromatic, too. Cannot find the pic on the web again, but the tin is gray and has Aromatic under the name. I opened up my 1970's tin about a year ago. Tobacco was stuck to the sides of the tin, but I pulled out the remainder. I hydrated it too much, and then had to dry it out a little. Now the tobacco is normal moist. Once again I have to give credit to JimInks The Man From INKS (International Nefarious Killing Squad) for his reviews. His ratings and criteria for those ratings differ from mine, so those can't be compared... but, his descriptions you can take to the bank. If there is something in there... he ferrets it out. The first few times I had the vintage it was sort of thick and muted at the same time. So, it's had more months in the jar. I took it out today because I wanted to compare it to Sutliff Match. Another thing Jim nailed, which I can verify (not that he needs it) is that (like Briggs) it is a close match. The match hits different points. You definitely get the Burley, a little grassy VA, but not a lot. The Lat is light, but I feel still an important player. A third of the way through the bowl... MARSHMALLOW! It is a little gift, but not overwhelming. Burns fine, leaves some turds in the bottom of the bowl, as opposed to the floaters which we guys pride ourselves in. This blend might age the same as vintage. What you have fresh is the separate parts and parts and flavors. The Vintage brings the sum of the parts into one flavor. You may not notice much VA, as it seems to have gotten lost with the other flavors. I agree with Jim that I can't really taste any citrus, but the sweetness. Is it marshmallow? Sounds good to me. What you get is a sweetness from top to bottom, a mild lat. Some burley. It's all wrapped into a nice mixture. Leaves a little at the bottom. Both blends could be all day smokes. For codgers, I could imagine them being hooked on a smoke like this, not smoking anything else. Neither burned hot, neither bit. Going to split some hairs in my ratings. the Match gets 3.75 Stars. 4 is too much and 3.5 is just above average. I feel it is better than that. And if you age it? Could reach for the stars later. The Vintage is 4.25 out of 5. This vintage blend could become a favorite that I will rue the day I run out. That puts it slightly above the Briggs. I give it that for sweetness. I also didn't want this rating to be too close to the Match 3.75, as there is enough of a diff for the half point difference. Pipestud had two tins that sold faster than any other on that page, so someone "gets it." Just remember, the vintage requires a little work

David, some great reading while on the throne.....thank you....thought you’d appreciate me letting you know.......lol. I like the way you take your time and break down each specific detail on the tobacco’s. I agree, ERR Match is an excellent smoke and if I had only two old codger blends due to a so called tobacco apocalypse ERR and Amphora Original would be my choices. Of course the Vintage is a bit superior so keep your eyes open for “ any “ deals on eBay, Etsy and even Steve Fallon. Happy hunting and I will let you know if I come across a deal on the Vintage.👌👍👍
Don’t let it go to your head but sometimes I enjoy reading your posts twice, is it because I’m getting older...LMAO!!!

So, I just took a picture with my iPad. Had another 2 pounds that I ordered Friday from Smokingpipes delivered this morning, yup.... it’s that good. Later I need to start my jarring process. Now I have enough for my lifetime.

david Great review and thanks for sharing... @lonecoyote are the Sutliff bags a thick plastic that look like they will hold their seal for a spell?

I've got at least a pound of RR, but with all the other Burley forward blends out there I am happy with those. That's why I don't bite when I see the original Edgeworth. Glad you like the reviews. I usually wait until I want to say something about one before I write.

I was debating leaving them in the factory sealed bags and put each into two heavy freezer bags...might work out. Also I don’t believe there would be any foreign taste down the road. What’s your thought, thanks.

David, thanks for your scatalogically enhanced review. Quite welcome, Don. That's what you get for smoking so much Hal o The Wind that I bought a tin... and then you quit smoking it. I'm afraid now to even open the tin. JK Freezer Bags or get some thicker ones from Amazon. Do NOT get those bags with the zipper. They bust open with some jostling and I am not even sure they are really airtight

I think HOTW and Old Gowrie will always be part of my stable of favorites.

I was debating leaving them in the factory sealed bags and put each into two heavy freezer bags...might work out. Also I don’t believe there would be any foreign taste down the road. What’s your thought, thanks. After I asked that question, I started researching the "one pound plastic bag" issue, and ascertained the bags that our "one pounders" arrive-in to our local online and B&M', have been chemically engineered to store tobacco for up to five years. So, for future purchases of these "one pounder" bags, I believe one has a few years or so prior to moving your favorite pipe tobacco blend to a large Kerr jar etc. The main thing is to keep it in a dark area, low humidity, and a temperature somewhere between 60* and 70* (That's 16*c and 21*c for you pipers not living in the Colonies )...

I remember that in the orange pouch. It was a pleasant American English that was good in a cob. I didnt know there was a match for it until now!

I looked at the Brindley's on P&C, and I don't see any lat in it. Am I missing something, or did they remove it?

It's something Jim has schooled me on over the phone, but I don't feel up to, nor should I try, to speak for him. It's been a month or two since I've had it. Similar to Holiday Blend to me, a little lighter.

Based on my memory growing up, and the aroma I remember, I am going to guess that the original Faber, Coe, and Gregg did have Latakia.
I remember as a kid drawing that insignia, the eagle carrying the FCG medallion. One of those things young kids get into, like lining up all your matchbox cars with the design in the rug.

I did get a sample of the original from Faber, Coe, and Gregg this weekend from a friend, but haven't smoked it yet.
Btw, I also found out that this is the blend Moe Howard smoked. That should make the Wolfman clap. Or is it the reverse and we clap for the Wolfman?
