There’s been much debate on the long term outcome when it comes to cellaring. Some say, lightly fill your jars. Others say, tightly pack the jars.
So I’ve taken 8oz of a certain blend and put 2oz in one jar. And managed to tightly press 6oz in another jar with a clamp and block. It’s almost like a crumble cake now.
And now we play the waiting game. I think 2 years minimum and 5 years is ideal. It’ll be interesting to see which storage arrangement yields the biggest difference, if any at all.
What say you? Does anyone have a preference?

When I jar my tobacco’s I don’t press to firmly, I leave just a little room for some air, helps the natural fermentation. If I was to make a cake I use wood blocks cut to size and heavy duty clamps. My crumble cakes or even plug type turns out just fine without me using one of those fairly expensive 2 to 4 ton presses. If I want to make a crumble cake I usually adjust the clamps to a medium press and leave it for 7 to 10 days. Those days when I made my own dense plugs I would tighten the clamps firmly and tighten a bit more every other day for 14 to 30 days, depending on the dense plug I was making, also depends on the leaf, casings/toppings used at the time.

Most of my cellar is from 2013 when I first started to cellar. I find that 5 years does wonders for Va. and taming of the Lats.
