For over 35 years now my wife and I have been the guardians of a mentally and physically handicapped boy.His name is Jamie. He's 44 now but he's very small. He looks like he's about 10.When he was 12 he developed type 1 diabetes and went into a coma.He spent 7 weeks in Children's Hospital in Detroit.Doc said it was a miracle that he lived.Since then he can't walk and he can only speak a few words. We've developed a form of signs though that allow him to tell us what he wants. His sugar level has to be checked every 4 hours around the clock.I stay up until 2:00 AM and make sure he's OK before I go to sleep. My wife gets up at 6:00 AM and starts another day..He likes action things.Wrestling,Monster Trucks,Race Cars, and Foot Ball.He also plays Video Games. He's the most loving little guy you could ever meet.I don't know what I would without him.I hope I never find out...Now you know about Jamie..He's the reason I stay up so late. All of you are the reason I spend some of that time here every night.Thank you for making This place so enjoyable for an old man who loves pipe smoking.

Larry, I think that is a most noble calling, and the reciprocation that takes place is lost on so many people in our culture. The βmeβ generational phase was a sad one, and many like yourselves have never bought into it.
I like the St. Judeβs commercials, and the Shriners commercials... the countenance of them parents really brighten my day.

Larry, people such as you and your wife, and Jamie too are an inspiration to me. Thanks for giving us a glimpse into who you are. Be well and enjoy your birthday tommorrow.

Agree, that truly is inspirational. And to think about the things others complain about...your example is humbling. I am happy that God blessed you with Jamie, and blessed him with you and your wife as his family and givers of such excellent care. Wow. Best post of the day...the week...and beyond. Thank you.

I don't want to take the shine off this thread, so all I'll say is that I know some of what you're going through.
It's not easy but it's what we do for our children. I hope you find your strength to do this from somewhere. I do, but that's all I'll say about that too.
I'm glad that this place helps you to while away the hours when you're on 'duty'. It's a good place to be.
