Sorry to hear of your problem, Baboo. Could you be on a med that's causing that? I know somebody who had this problem and it took a while for him to improve, and that didn't happen until he changed his meds.

Sorry to hear of your problem, Baboo. Could you be on a med that's causing that? I know somebody who had this problem and it took a while for him to improve, and that didn't happen until he changed his meds. Thanks Jim! It is a definite possibility that the steroidal asthma inhaler that I use all-too-much has finally produced a deleterious effect on my mouth membranes - such steroidal inhaler use is often associated with mouth thrush (yeast growth), but this does not appear to be at all evident in my case. Lab tests will have to be performed to assist in diagnosing and ruling things out. I think this is why my first taste of SG Brown Sugar Flake fresh out of the tin was such a downer. I did puff a bit on some SPC Plum Pudding last night, snorking mostly and getting good flavor through the nose, but the tongue sting set in quickly so I snuffed out the bowl. BTW: Might you know what med your friend changed from and to?

He's out of town, so I can't ask him now, but I recall the med was a steroid of some kind for his back issues.

So sorry Baboo, get better soon. Thanks, Motto ... it's a miserable medical mystery. No interest in food or drink either for lack of taste. I hope you pick up soon, an artist mate used to smoke cigarettes all his life and had no taste at all , but as soon as he gave them up his taste came back, but it may be temporary.

Steroidals, with continued use over time can take a turn for the worse, causing a condition known as Candidiasis - a fungal infection caused by yeasts that can migrate to all parts of the body, including all organs... and the mouth. This could very well be my issue.

Walked Pop, the rain earlier had cleared the air, finished a bowl of a half empty bowl mix refreshed with HU great Dixter in my MM country gent maple black bent stem. In the company of the smoking Dagners & friend on YouTube making pipe rings, I will relight my falcon black bent golden ringed international stem with dark billiard bowl , smoking my 3 jar Eventide mix, having a chocolate milk shake with coconut milk. I have taken to my new falcon and bowls, I was looking at custom bowl designs, and pipe dreaming of making my own bowls. But I find the falcon uncomfortable, clenched in my mouth permanently while walking for a while, it may be the international stem, I have no problem with my other pipes.

More of my new Falcon Biliards bowl on an international golden banded black bent stem, with my 3 jars " eventide" mix, gone the witching hour, in a virtual wild Irish bar with some Irish music on the radio , and the hairy smoking Dagners being sociable, some natural wildlife doing their thing on National Geographic documentaries. Put the Scotch Whiskey and spirits, in the second division, I have become a devotee of Penderyn Whiskeys and spirits, Welsh brews of the waters of life, it is not owned by the Orientals ... I will finish my Laphroaig Islay's best tonight... Are any members devotees of the gunpowder & blade lifestyle and culture, any hunters or anglers or is it off topic ? My hobby is amateur radio, but I study a few subjects.

It is a different culture in the UK, as far as firearms go , I fancied the military life as a kid, my Dad & Uncles served in the WW2, so it was in the blood, but it was not to be, but as someone who eats meat on feast days, I accept that " if I eat it then I must be prepared to kill it" , but mercifully, which is a big question...I am selective what creatures trespassing in my home I kill & do not kill, but that is custom. If I were in your position I would fast from tobacco for a while, but if you vape , then menthol might have a calming effect, some herbal remedies may soften the symptoms , until the medication is balanced, but you probably no what to do, so excuse me intruding...

I may have something called Burning Mouth Syndrome, which severely affects the taste buds - I cannot detect much sweetness, and my tongue stings lightly with an odd salt/metallic taste. Nothing tastes right. Been about two weeks straight with this. There are several medical conditions that can bring this about, and I don't know the cause for my BMS, if that's what it is. BMS has been known to resolve itself or last for months or years. Anyway, pipe smoking for me is all but out for now and until further notice... CRAP!!! Biotene mouthwash may speed your recovery. I also avoid alcohol when my palate sours, hard medicine for sure. Another alternative I've found effective is to cut down on consumption and switch to Latakia blends when others lose their sweetness. I've found it helps when I begin dipping my toe back towards my beloved Virginia and Burley blends. Best of wishes with this. Enjoying Cornell & Diehl Carolina Red Flake 1034/2400 in a reddish Dunhill Bruyere Canadian after rubbing out with a half hour dry time, drinking Dr. Pepper 10 and watching Bridge Over River Kwai. I'm a red Virginia hound and this one definitely rivals McCanie's. A steal at less than $10/tin compared to that one. Should age well but I'm glad I picked up 9 tins because I can see myself cracking a few more before putting the rest back for a while.

Been using the Biotene mouthwash for about a week now 2x/day, but still no improvement. Gave SPC Plum Pudding a try or two (a soft smokey lat blend), still felt the sting hours after. Completely cut out hard liquor and beer past two weeks almost. One root beer a day is all. - then water only. Hope this thing runs its course whatever it is.

To complement pharmacy medication mouth washes and herbal teas, I swear by the natural healing qualities of diary milk. But a good detox would go down well if you a have a problem in the sensitive mouth, a sweat & dry sauna treatment, and a good commercial herbal detox will help treat the imbalances and control the symptoms, in the short term and long term. But I do not want play the quack, say to yourself no tobacco for a fortnight, & try a vape if you are tempted. The native Americans and ancients swore by sweat sauna for when you are less active and do not sweat and detox through physical activity , a simple growing tent and modest ( electrically insulated) deep fryer with water in make a DIY sweat sauna, and four powerful infrastructure lamps and electric fan convector make a dry sauna , and are easily made out of readily available materials online. Good health.
