Usually a shine can be accomplished by using White Diamond & Carnauba Wax with buffing wheels. That pipe looks better then new👍👍👍👍👍 yeah, I've done that on all my cheapo eBay finds, but they never shine up like that. If what he did is just a buff and wax, I'd be surprised, but then I'm FAR from experienced with wood finishing.

I use a Baldor bench grinder, you can only accomplish so much with a Dremel. When I’m done they look like they’ve been lacquered.

The thing aboutba carnauba only finish is the shine wont last for long without buffing or burnishing. Many pipemakers use a natural food grade shellac to keep that shine. Burnishing can be done with a piece of linen that is kept debris free and not washed because it gets better with use. I have a linen napkin that I use to shine up my pipes when they get too dull or dirty to stand. It also works a treat on rim coloration little spit quick polish and all good and shiny again.

I’ve buffed many briars with White Diamond and solid bar pure Carnauba Wax and the shine last a long time. If food grade shellac is used it’s wiped on and wipe off fast.. PS I’ve posted this prior...I keep a microfiber cloth nearby that has my mixture of bee’s wax and mineral oil. After each use my briars get a quick hand buffing.
