Joe, outstanding restoration, the pipe looks better than when it was new and now the grain of the briar POPS. Itโs a real looker now! Whoever gets this beauty youโll also enjoy how well it smokes๐๐๐

That is unreal. I have this same pipe, except with a different finish, and newer of course. One day I took it out of the rack to clean it, and the inner most part of the stem broke off inside of the shank when I took it off of the pipe, stone cold! Only a small part of the stem, though. So what I was able to do is use the little metal bar thing on a pipe tool, yank that out, and then file down the stem so that it was even and flush with the inside of the shank. Now it holds tight and you don't even notice it. Pretty easy repair.

Holy Cow Joe! That Briar is beyond Beautiful! Great work my friend. It reminds me of a pipe that I picked up a year or so ago that was part of an estate sale I found on CL. Sadly I don't have any before pics but here's a couple of afters.... After I stripped off the lacquer/varnish finish, and did a little reshaping of the toe (that had been chipped) this is what I ended up with....

It is a stunner! Truly great briar underneath the finish. Your so right. What would make Grabow hide that stunning grain in the first place??? Go figure!

That's a fantastic job, sir. Certainly rags to riches.
Would you mind sharing how your got the finish so shiny? Did you re-laquer it, or is that all buff and wax?

Usually a shine can be accomplished by using White Diamond & Carnauba Wax with buffing wheels. That pipe looks better then new๐๐๐๐๐
