So, my first pipe was a $5 MM. I smoked Capt. Black White and started to think about actually picking up the hobby. I began doing research on pipes, tobacco's, etc and found out there was SO much more out there than I had expected. There's a ton to learn about pipe history, modern pipesmoking, and, obviously, my own palate and preferences.
The first tobacco review I watched really opened my eyes to the complexities of tobacco blends. The review was on Frog Morten On The Bayou. I looked for it at pipesandcigars.com and it was our of stock. I thought to myself. "I'll order some other tobacco now, and keep my eyes open for it in the future..."
I know it's probably old news to you guys, but I just read that they are no longer producing this tobacco. Looking around, it's going for exorbitant prices on Ebay. I guess I will never smoke the first tobacco that really got me interested in pursuing pipe smoking. Such a disappointment...
Anyone have a suggestion for a blend that would be similar?

One I can think of right away would be Peter Stokkebye's English Luxury as a replacement for Frog Morton Cellar.
I have been looking for a replacement for Frog on the Town for awhile now also

My suggestion is to PM JimInks and he’d be the one person that can point you in the right direction. You’ll probably have to try 2 or 3 blends, see if the blend is to your taste/liking. Everyone’s palate is different but Jim would give you the best choices and point you in the right direction 👍👍👍

woolypiper, I heard through the grapevine that Magnum Opus is a good replacement for Frog on the Bayou.

I love their pipes but I have never been a big peterson blend smoker. I'll buy a tin and if I like it, I'll get the bulk bag. Much appreciated!!!

I recently smoking Moonshine XXX and found it somewhat similar to Frog Morton Cellar. A decent smoke in it's own right.

There's no substitute for the Frog Mortons, but there are 100s of great tobaccos out there. Join a pipe club. Trade some tobacco. (Buy some Dunhill Navy Rolls or HH Vintage Syrian now for trades later.) Make some pipe friends on the net. You'll find some Frog Morton coming your way pretty easily. There's a lot out there that's been hoarded, and it will be around for years to come through the pipe community.

Oh, there are still a number of B&Ms that have Frog Morton in bulk. I was at one recently and they called Frog on a Log "Kermit." If you do some digging, I'm sure you'll get lucky.

+1 on Moonshine XXX. Also check out some of the Sutliff crossovers, like Aromatic English and Burma Road.

Thanks folks. Lots of good advice! Jim sent me after some blends last night. Been 6 weeks of smoking, and I've already bought over 20 tins of tobacco and 10 or so oddball oz. of bulk online! Starting to understand TAD Also, as a side note. I bought a bag of Mr. Brog misscut/unfinished pear and briar pipes from Amazon, and have been working on them as my initial 7 day rotation. Very cool to smoke a pipe that you've essentially made yourself So glad to have folks to talk to about piping. Small town guy here, no tobaccanist or shops in a 100 mile radius.

Very cool to smoke a pipe that you've essentially made yourself So glad to have folks to talk to about piping. Small town guy here, no tobaccanist or shops in a 100 mile radius. Since this (pipe smoking) is a lifetime endevor, take your time, pick one or two blends, if they are tinned smoke at least 4 of each , if bulk smoke at least 8 ozs, so you can get a good idea of how blends work. Pick out 1 or 2 of your tins and 8 oz of 1 bulk blend you have and smoke JUST THOSE at least till you smoke those up. Gbowl to bowl of 20 blends will NOT give you a true idea of what you'll like ! Ther is no hurry for you to smoke everything. Pick a direction you want to try ie. English/Balkan, Vaper , strait Va's Burleys, or Aromatics and start to focus your smoking. JMHO ( and 50+ years of smoking)

imgur.com/5gMc8LsHopefully that worked. Trying to upload pics. Pear pipe I made, my first. Already looking at adding more detail and flair to the next one.
