Found a GBD pipe today with an ill fitting bit/mouth piece/stem? For $28.00. I spent 5 minutes with a small fine file and viola nice fitting bit/mouth piece/stem. This pipe has a large bowl and is tanned leather in color and has stitching on it so it has been named Frankenstein. I will post pics tomorrow right after lone coyote teaches me lol

Interesting find. I'd bet it's French GBD because of the leather casing. Any idea of the age of that pipe? The leather covered pipes were very popular with the American GI's coming home from WW II.

Mike can do a fine job including adding the brass rondel. AJ Yeah...I am a big fan. He did pretty good in Austin Powers also. Mike’s work making stems for a Comoy’s pipe including the 3 part “C” looks as good as the original. My problem with Mike’s work is that he usually booked up 2-3 months in advance which speaks of his work quality. His ability is well known and pipers wanting a first rate job go to Mike. This is why he has such a backlog of work but it’s worth the wait. AJ

What does the stamping to the right of the GBD stamp say? are there any other stampings or numbers?
Just a wild guess, but I am thinking that it is a 1970 era pipe based on the rusticated pattern.
(I have a Mastersen made by Shalom, and a few Edwards all from the 70's, and they have somewhat similar designs.)

pipedia.org/wiki/GBDDon’t let the “descending order” cause any distress... my Penthouse is one heck of a smoker! +1. Nice call Charlie. I have a seven pipe pre-Cadogan 549 bulldog collection which currently consists of two Bronze Velvets, one Virgin, two Varichromes, one New Era and one Prehistoric. I've previously owned some of the others. Blindfolded, I probably couldn't tell the difference between any of them as they've all been mechanically sound and great smokers. One time I saw a similar birth year Dunhill bulldog for $900 which I really dug, looked up on the wall at my GBDs and got over that urge real fast.

Woohoo 😊😆👍😁, I'm guessing I scored at twenty eight dollars Definitely well played. The pre-Cadogan GBDs are the best bang for buck out there IMHO. Just a friendly warning, they can be addictive. Hope you enjoy the pipe Pete.

A very good purchase in my books. A GBD pre Cadogan is like a Labrador of pipes, I like all of them that I have met. If you smoke Latakia in it, Dior makes a nice pairing to mitigate offensive body odor.
