Opening a tin I've had for a while. This morning it is my second smoke. Starting the day with 5Bros resets my taste buds. I never start the day with an aro anymore.
I have two slightly different impressions for the same tobacco. Last night in a briar this tobacco gave me a very pleasant smoke, but it was really neutral. Tin None unremarkable. Just another English. Lat was there with some smokiness, but not a heavy hitter. It was mild and smooth. I caught very little from it. The description on SP says "It's lighter and sweeter than the others, but still rich, with hints of cinnamon and citrus. A perfect "English Breakfast Mixture."
If there is any sweetness I have not caught it. Yesterday I would have given this a lower rating. It was good. Maybe better than some of the cheap brands of English. No cinnamon, no fruit.
I felt I had to go back to the drawing board before reporting it. I am in a Cob now. Maybe that helps. The first few puffs started out with the same neutrality, but in the back of my throat, tickling my nasal senses was a cinnamon-perique like note. A few more puffs and it came out stronger and is remaining with it. Call it cinnamon or maybe it has some other spice with it, it's there. It takes away from the blandness I felt yesterday. In fact, that note gives the tobacco a little more strength today, which I am sure will please some of you. This could be a winter-Christmas type smoke.
Really, other than the Lat and cinnamon-periquiness (created a new word here) there is not a lot to report. It doesn't bite, but will tingle your tongue. It's not hot, and I am a Choo Choo Train on puffing.
My biggest issue is: Why? Was there really a need to have one more product in a line of already good tobaccos? With hundreds of tobaccos is there really a place for this (which could be said of many tobaccos)?
Giving it a quick upshot before my ratings, this could be an all day smoke if you wish. I fear it would lose some of it's spiciness if smoked all the time. It's pleasant and mild. The spice comes through as much as the lat. And, pleasantly, the spice overcomes the Lat.
Suggestion on buying: I would buy this again, but I would not worry about stocking up on it.
Ratings: I am going to be rating several points from now on that I feel are relevant.
Lat Aspect 3 of 5. It's totally average, which is not bad. Might be a boon for people not wanting a lot.
Spice 4 of 5. It really came through. So, perique lovers would go for this IMO
Virginia 3 of 5. It's the base. It may have had a moment of tang (or maybe hwang), but is really... just there
Christmasy 4.5 of 5. I should take off a point for not promoting it as a Christmas Tobacco, but I am feeling the groove
Originality 2 of 5. In the general market of this tobacco type it's not a necessary blend
If I did a strict average this would come to barely over 3 stars, but it is a quality blend. It does what it claims. I give this an overall of 3.75
Wolfman was smoking this a while back, and I do pay attention to what he smokes. I would not mind hearing Sam's opinion, even if he trashes my opinion.
