I have a tin of Rattrays 100g Old Growie that has a distributor listed on the bottom as XYZ direct ltd. Atlanta. When I google I see an article that is defunct listing XYZ as being bought by Arango in 2011. Can anyone give more info or look at their old tins and tell me if a that sounds correct and anything with XYZ would be before 2011/12. Mine has a hand written date of April 2007 but I am skeptical because of the condition of the tin. Looks brand new.

Do you see anywhere on the 3.5 .oz canister “ Made in Germany “? I have plenty of old Rattray’s, none after 2010, by 2011 they changed to much for my taste, what I was use too. I’m holding a tin of Rattray’s year 2000, labeled....Smoking Tobacco, US Distributor, James B Russell Inc. from the State of New Jersey.

Just found one ( thank God ) from 2011....I have plenty of Rattray’s blends and this was my last newer batch of 3.5 oz purchased.
On the bottom.....
Made in Germany US Distributor Arango Cigar Co. Northbrook, IL
Hope this helps

Glad I was able to help. This was purchased from 4Noggins and I was assured at the time it was prior to 2010.....my fault, I should have looked. Never arse/U/ME, I should have known better!

One would think ......right.......but after 2010 the blends changed completely. I’ve probably smoked more Rattray’s blends in my life then most so I knew something was up! When I lived in Europe I smoked Rattray’s roughly 85% of the time, besides the blends from Denmark & England. I was going to send this 2011 3Noggins blend back to where it was purchased.....4Noggins......guess I didn’t because I was 1Noggin off at the time.....lol.👍.

I have a 4 oz. cutter top tin (empty now) of Red Rapparee from back when it was still made in Scotland and James B. Russel distributed it. I think I bought this one back in 1972,. I didn't smoke much of it but by the '80s they had stopped making it in Scotland and changed the contents so I gave up on it. Bought a tin last year and it was closer to my memory of the old blend but it still was not the same. Things change

Interesting thread which had me checking my current open tin of Old Gowrie.
Mine was purchased in April 2007 for sure.
It reads: "Made in Germany. US-distributor: XYZ Direct Ltd, Atlanta, GA, 30305.

It was almost into 2011 when the distributor change was made, that’s the time period when a majority of the blends changed as well for me, I was also use too the original blends. They still “ fly “ off the shelves once back in stock. The tins I just looked at in one of my Rubbermaid containers with years ranging from 2004 through 2010 has this distributors label on the bottom: XYZ Direct Ltd, Atlanta, GA, 30305.
