Stranded in the shed again due to a thunderstorm. I was prepared this time though. Brought 2 cobs, a box of matches and a jar of tobacco. This was the result. All I used was a drill, file, dremel and a lot of sandpaper. It has a shine to it due to 2000 grit paper and a buffer but it doesnt show very well.

Superb job👍👍👍. I enjoy making tampers, they also make great gifts to Pipe smokers👍
PS I must add......you have that faux bamboo look as well. Now make a few more, it’s a beautiful tamper. I made the photo much larger and took a closer look....very well done!

Thank you. Not bad considering a few weeks ago it was just a log for the fireplace. Me and the tablesaw had a meeting because I needed some pieces of oak. I'm going to start another one later on. First I have to handle this problem. No idea why the house hasn't burned down.

As often as I get bored, and as much as I enjoy smoking my pipe while making things, there will be a lot of them handed out soon enough

Beautiful tamper, and that was with a dremel? No lathe involved?
As for the plug... Good grief you were fortunate.

With the way the male end of that 220v line looks, you are lucky a fire didn’t start. Did you smell an odor of rubber burning?

No lathe but used my drill as one. Worked good enough. Looking at some small wood lathes now. Especially since I just paid $50 to fix the wiring problem but won $500 on a scratch off ticket on the way home The problem was 1 of 2 things, loose connection or wrong size wire for the dryer. I went back with a 10 gauge dryer cord and new box. All is good now. It had a fishy smell, that's what those boxes smell like when heated.

Nice tamper. Glad you caught the wiring problem in time. Things like that kinda give me a bit of a scare when discovered in my home.

I'm very happy that, that plug didn't have a chance serious issues and the no one was hurt.

I still have no idea why the house didnt burn down. The insulation on one of the wires was burned off about 8" inside the wall. Glad I caught it when I did.

I'm not sure how long. I washed clothes, went to the shed, came in and put them in the dryer. I hit start... nothing. Checked the panel box, breaker wasn't tripped. Flipped it off and went back to the dryer. I unplugged it and the bottom of the box crumbled. That's when I knew what the problem was.
The last 2 days have been stormy, garden got wrecked. Spent my morning cutting stakes and wiring plants back upright. Cleaned up the shed. Got the weed eater out, got tore up by fire ants. Just not my day so far
Hopefully I make it back out to the shed this afternoon to start the next project.

Not yet, but there will be soon. I got side tracked cleaning up some old pipes and making a new pipe stand.
I'm also waiting on some new wood (hard maple) to show up.

Good looking tamper and someone ^^^ was looking out for you. The ^^^ is much higher than the top of the post...I mean much higher. Think about it...you'll get my meaning. I gotcha, and I agree. I've been watched out for a couple times with electricity. Once while doing OJT to be an electrician I flipped the power on to a sub-panel box and had a bolt shoot through me and actually blow holes through the bottom of my blue jeans. It was at a warehouse my dad worked at and he told me he thought for sure I was gone that day. It killed the power in the whole warehouse. It burned the hair off of my right arm and right leg. I've seen BAD pictures of electricity + the body, somehow I avoided that. It also happened to be 2 days after my son was born. I quit working for that electrician that day. A few years ago I was cutting out a floor to replace the joists. For some reason I stopped cutting and still had a lot to cut along the wall to go. I pulled the sawzall blade out and couldn't get it back in because the boards pinched together. I pulled the piece of floor out to get the blade back in and I was less than an inch away from cutting a 220v line. No idea why it was even there, but it was live. I've had very close calls. HE said it just wasn't my time yet. For that, I am thankful.

Good grief that's scary stuff.
When I was about 10 the plug that went into the vacuum cleaner fell apart and exposed the live parts which looked a little bent. I decided to straighten them up while the other end was still in the wall and switched on.
I got a lovely fuzzy feeling all over my body and fell over. After that I decided never to do that again.
