John, that’s a beauty, looks in mint condition. Also a great piece of well aged Algerian briar. Must be one of your favorite pipes, enjoy for many years🙏🙏👍👍👍
I did locate a ‘51 but the seller wanted $800.00, way to high priced for me!

Ted, the seller of my pipe was very reasonable at $250.00. Finding post war Dunhills is a chore but one I think is worth pursuing.

Have been on the lookout for a birth year myself (63), but in the meantime I'll make do with my Conception Year Dunnie...

… I too am looking for a '51 Dunhill...Mine was stolen in college...I've seen a few but as Ted points out, not in the 800-1000 range...

Peter, the day I spend near $800.00 on ANY pipe I’d shoot myself in the foot and wake up quickly! I’ve had my eyes open looking around since last summer. John was very luck he found a deal @ $250.00 on his birth year ‘52 👍👍👍 I look at it this way, I still have both of my grandfather’s favorite Dunhill pipes, that’s really all that matters, they are close to my heart. If I find a decent ‘51 I’d buy it, but I’m in no rush. If I found a deal on a ‘51 I’d show it to Peter first, his was stolen...that hurts!

Appreciate anyone’s help, I thank you in advance ♥️🙏❤️👍 My 1950 Dunhill Root Briar was given to me by a friend on the PSF forum. I wouldn't have paid the price for it. Of course, it's now priceless. I know that he got it from Pipestud for around $250. Pipestud gave him a deal.

PS
Smokingpipes has a Dunhill smooth straight 1951 for a while now, not what I’m looking for but it’s fairly worn out and the selling price is $365.00. Absolutely RIDICULOUS!!!

About 4 years ago my daughter was in England and picked up a nice Patent era Shell st.apple for a reasonable price of $215.00 . She got it for my 68th birthday and it wasn't till I looked up it's date that I realized it was a BY pipe ! I know you're looking for a BY pipe but if you can see if you can find a Shell model or Bruyere series as these were made from oil cured Algerian briar till the late '60s and are the best smoking Dunhills. JMHO

JMHO Michal, you have a thoughtful daughter and that price was right👍 Im looking for a ‘51 Shell Briar which is made from Algerian briar. Up until ‘68 Dunhill to the best of my knowledge only used Algerian briar to make their pipes. I too prefer pipes made from Algerian briar. I’m always looking for a good buy on old Algerian pipes on eBay.

I’ll take the money that I would waste on a Dunhill and have Scottie make me a pipe.

Maybe if I ask Scottie nicely if she’d stamp B Y 1951 on a pipe when the time comes. Justin, just for the heck of it I was watching a 1968 Dunhill that truly looked like it went through WWI & II. The pipe sold for $168.55, whoever restores this pipe there will be nothing legible on the briar. The white dot on the stem was completely faded.

Michael, thanks, I’m aware all Edwards pipes are made from Algerian briar. I’ve been keeping my eyes open on eBay but they end up going for quite a bit of money. I own many Algerian briars from the 30’s, through the 60’s. A few months ago a good friend from NC gifted me a great smoking Edwards pipe. It’s an excellent smoker and no fills in this very different carved pipe. Later in the day I need to take a picture and post with what I’m smoking at the time. Last week there was an Edwards nosewarmer that was stunning and nobody was bidding on. The starting bid was $15.00, I figured I’d wait for the last 10 seconds and hit my maximum bid at $25.55, the pipe I thought was worth the price and I would win maybe even cheaper. Ended up at the end there must have been many that waited the last few seconds plus all those that use snipe programs, the pipe sold for $44.55! I was dumbfounded and still scratch my head when I think about what happened.

I got really lucky a few years ago, I went into a local antique store and bought four well maintained Edwards pipes for $10 apiece.

Roy, both are decent looking for the price. The one that’s selling for $165.00 has a slightly burnt rim, I’m also too anal retentive...lol. Plus I never buy from a seller that does not accept returns. Thanks for posting the links👌👍
PS Dino, will definitely be interested in the top one you listed.

I bought a Dunhill Bing off of a friend, since I wanted to have one in my collection. He gave me a great price, but in the end, I absolutely hate the stem. Hindsight, it wasn't worth the money at all.

I bought this Dunhill from a pipe-dealer pipe friend of mine for $25, because he wasn't quite happy with it; as you don't look an almost gift pipe in the shank, I didn't inspect it closely until he'd left and it turned out to be a birth year (1950) pipe. A pretty good deal, I'd say; at least I'm happy with it.
