There's a place here in Michigan that has some vintage pipes, so I I bought the available stock, almost smoking condition, but I could use some basic refurb tips. I've never let a pipe get this far before cleaning. HELP much appreciated.

I could give it a go but given the age and rarity, I just can't without thinking some codgers Giving me the death stare from heavin wreckin his pipe. No burn outs and only a hint of char, nothing that would ruin the bowl profile.

A picture would be helpful in determining what needs done.
A pack of pipe cleaners and alcohol will do wonders for most situations.
What kind of pipes did you score?

Having trouble getting up pics, but a 1930s Peterson bulldog, a Chacom Champagne qquarter bent almost scale-like? rustification, a 1920-23 Manhattan full bent w/banding, a 70's Edwards 730-s which after removing the cake was perfectly smokable. All of which are truly fine grained pipes. Id like to make a rotation of the lot although the Edwards is superb.

Depending on the marque of pipe you got i.e. GBD, BBB etc, and how crudded up they are i'd send 'em ( 1 at a time) to Walker Briar Works www.walkerbriarworks.com/

From the sounds of it the pipes he didn't have on hand were of good age and condition. So I guess paying to get them in tip top shape couldn't hurt.

If you’re thinking of restoring them yourself, might I suggest buying a couple of cheap beaters to practice on first. I’d love to see that Pete if you can post a picture.
