The new Burren Pete's debuting today @sp are very nice. (No photo capability here, if you do, please post a pic). Virgin Sandblasted light colored briar, caramel stem and nickel mount, selling for $125.00.

JD talked about Peterson on the most recent episode of the Country Squire. Evidently, October 1st is when Laudisi takes over.

I’m not a big fan of the newer Pete’s......stop yelling at me!! The quality control went down the toilet in the past few years, especially those lacquer Pipes they released that bubble if the briar overheats a bit. Let’s see how Smokingpipes rectifies the issue of quality control after October 1st👍

Here's a pic of one of them. Looks like a Morgan Bones with a Pete stem and junction.

I remember maybe 9 months ago they had the extremely high end amber stemmed pipes. They retailed over $350.00 and people had plenty of QC problems with them. Let's hope Laudisi does Peterson right!

I've been very satisfied with my last two Peterson pipes, both new, not estate. I would recommend the Aran line or any of the very affordable Dublin Edition cherrywood pipes to anyone. All of my Petersons are either brand new as of the last 2 years or 20+ years old, so I don't know about other recent years, as quality is concerned. Quality may not be the same line to line, of course, either.

JD admitted that he typically steers a shopper away form the Pete’s, as he doesn’t want to see pipes come back to him.... can’t blame a retailer for that. He said that over the years he had quite a few that went back to the distributor. He is pretty optimistic that Sykes will address the issues and help get Peterson back to it’s rightful place in history... Sykes has a great reputation, I am sure better days are ahead.

I'm also wondering if the guys and gals working at the old Peterson factory may just be getting up there in age, too. They say old age is no excuse, but hey, its worth something. I remember when i used to embalm for funeral homes, some of the other embalmers were 85+ years old. People told me that in their day they were the best embalmers in the country, some of them. But their quality had deteriorated, I could see that. They all finished in 25 minutes or less, and of course, were the best embalmers on the face of the Earth. So I couldn't say anything, and if I did, they'd say something like "I was embalming before you were even a twinkle in your parents eyes". I imagine a lot of craftsmen get this way, as they age.

Nope, don’t buy into your theory! It’s the younger generation that destroyed Peterson’s reputation from what I’ve seen in the past 2 years. Another example.....a new hip-hop generation took over a major name in the tobacco industry and ever since is when mold issues started popping up often in their tinned blends, not their bulk! No names will be mentioned to protect the innocent.....sounds like Dragnet.

The people over at smokingpipes are pipe smoking crazy people, so I am pretty sure they'll rectify any problems. They actually have people moving to Dublin to oversee this whole transition, so I have pretty good faith they'll do a good job. Anyway, if anyone is looking for a good NEW Peterson without any of the aforementioned problems, do look into the Dublin Edition and Aran pipes. I can do nothing but say they are of great quality!

I have purchased pipes in many prices ranges over a lot of years. When and if I would pay $350.00 for a factory pipe it better be perfect. Petes, Castello any of em!

Reminds me of a conversation that an old man at our shop was having with a younger guy. The younger guy asked him, " did you ever think that you have been doing it the wrong way all those years?"
