It's not that fragile. As long as you dont have it sitting in direct sunlight, your fine.Which is true with briars as well. Sunlight will oxidize the stem/bit faster. A rack or stand in a safe place where it wont get knocked around will be fine. As with all pipes avoid tempature extremes.

After a smoke, dump the ash.Tap it either on the ball of your thumb or get a cork knocker.Take the pipe tool's spoon blade and gently remove any unburnt tobacco in the bottom (dottle). Then use a twisted paper towel or a clean clothe and wipe out the bowel. After it cools, take the stem out of the shank and run a pipe cleaner thru the shank into the bowel. Then a clean PC into the stem/bit.Reattach and your ready for your next smoke. I myself might smoke 2 or 3 bowels before I clean though.

Freudian slip?
I can get dyslexic sometimes.Put up with a year of kidding around because of it once. But all fair, I can laugh at my mistakes.(I didn't see until I reread it about 4 times)

I wouldn't,but as long as it's not getting knocked about it should be fine. But why keep it in a baggie? so your saying its bad? is their a risk of mold? is it ok to do only for a few days? that's what I plan on doing just keeping it for a few days in the baggie until I can find a place for it. if not what should I do instead? thx

I'd slide it in a soft sock and put it in a drawer.I'm not sure that mold itself would be an issue, but you should let your pipes air out when they're resting. Briar especially can sour by keeping them in a moist environment.Where the baggie will keep moisture out it will also keep moisture in.

Is there a need to keep your pipe hidden? Or do you use your basement as a smoking room? Set up a desk and some shelves to set your smoking apparatus on.Give them a bit of air.

(i am old enough legally but still) the pipe was aired out at the shop. but i should still go with the sock idea? another problem is I have VERY wiry and abrasive bristles. thx

(I will clean the storage shelf in the morning) You don't want to store pipes in a baggie. After it cools and airs out, put it in it's case or a pipe sock and store it in a drawer or cabinet.

ill explain. I can't store it in my drawer upstairs due to humidity. i DO have place downstairs in a box that I am building. it will be built by tommorrow and I WILL put it in a sock.
just right now i don't have it assembled.
would it harm the pipe to store it in a baggie for NO MORE than 24 hours?
thanks for your time.
sorry to drive everyone crazy

Almost like my pipe/pope typo If you're of age, I dont understand the need of hiding it. Put it in something breathable and stuff it away if hiding is a must. Btw, the best place to hide something is in plain sight.

I’m with you on why the need to hide it. I have a hunch. OP needs to hide the pipe. Add to it, previously the OP talks of having a “soapstone” pipe before. To each their own....

I was thinking the same. Especially since the question has been answered over and over again.
Maybe someone should just say "leave it in the bag" since that's the answer he is lookin for.
I'm no one to judge anyone for anything. Hell, I just found a glass pipe in my 15 year old back pack a few weeks ago. Hes lucky it was a weed pipe and not something else.
Still fishy to me....
