Was just wondering how many of you are Bright & Shiny pipesters or a well smoked Patina sort of guy. When I started smoking I wanted all my pipes to look new and shiny but as the years have gone by the patina from hand and nose oil has become the look for me! Whose a bright & shiny guy or a patina guy ?

I'll go with OOPS!
I would say patina.I've a couple new pipes, but most of my pipes are estate pipes that I've refurbished.

Shinys great, but a good patina is almost akin to petrified wood with a marble like feel,I like shiny tho. Depends on the briars coat pherhaps

For me it depends on the pipe. Definitely don’t like or want Pipes that have been lacquered.

Got to agree with @lonecoyote on the lacquered pipes. I had one Color Duke and got rid of it because it just felt wrong.

Depends on the pipe, finish, and age.
I like a semi-matte finish on blasted pipes. Shiny on newer smooth finish pipes. And light patina on old silver band hallmarked pipes.

I don't like shiny pipes. I prefer a matte finish. Lacquer is anathema.

I clean and polish up used pipes. After that, they only get wiped off with a cotton t-shirt (dry) when in done with them.
I dont really like "new" or shiny anything. Especially tools.

I like a good smoker with striking grain...so I keep'em clean and shiny on the outside, and smokey on the inside. :-)

This. I worked construction for a while where I wore a tool belt. I always felt a little guilty when a new boss would give you his cool, old weathered belt and buy a new, unbroken-in stiff one for himself.

I click on the link you posted, nothing but a virgin white page! You have one of those disappearing pipes?

I like both. When in the mood...I head to the shed and the buffing machine and shine them all up...happens about every couple of months.

I'm not fussed on the overly laquered pipe, but I do like seeing a bit of shine. But then again I also like rustication or sandblast.
I'm easily pleased.

I like a natural shine and I'm a compulsive polisher. I keep a red/pink Dunhill cloth at hand. If I want a little more shine I use a tiny dab of Renaissance wax.

I smoke a lot of unfinished MM cobs with Forever stems. Shine isn't really a factor in pipe choice for me.

this pipe looked much better once slight wear allows some of the grain to be visible.

I find shiny pipes a bit harder for my old stiff fingers to hang on to

"... Tapered Pot Smoking Estate Pipe."
Yeah I understand this description... But I'm still not sure I would have phrased it quite like this. ;-)

I Got me a Pretty Wife,I don't need pretty pipes. (And,no I didn't get caught buying more pipes) (It was a new lighter) I've got a pretty wife too. We all get caught buying something. Enjoy the new lighter. Personally, my PAD is flaring up and my TAD is an ongoing issue.
