Here's 7-year old Avery playing drums to the Rush song Tom Sawyer. I started on drums and percussion before I moved to guitar: everything Neil Peart plays is hard. While he's not my favorite drummer (he hits too many drums for me), he was impressive in concert. Here's the note Avery wrote about the video: The FIRST song I learned by sheet music, was EXTREMELY HARD!

That's AMAZING!
I've listened to Rush since I was a kid. They never get old.

Pretty impressive for a 7 year old! And if you're going to spend countless hours memorizing some drum chops...why not a Rush song? I've played drums and guitar for 40 years...and I can tell you...even matching the licks Neil did is no easy task.

As a former drummer let me tell you.....this 7 year old simply “ NAILED “ the beat! Already has a natural over hand rhythm beat, flawlessly! Without a doubt, the best 7 year old I’ve ever seen sitting behind a set of drums with so much love, feeling every beat within!! This youngster is “ going places “.👍👍👍👍👍 It takes passion and a lot of practice to already be playing at his skill level, wonder who his mentor/instructor is??
Greatly appreciate you posting this video! Was my BIG “ O “ of the week👌👌

What I appreciate is the kid learning how to read music first; most kids just pick up the sticks and start bashing away.

Wether that 7 year old reads music or not, he’s has a God given talent....he can feel the music within. I not only kept my eyes on “ his styx “, I noticed he was also into deep thought feeling the beat.

I watched a whole bunch of his other videos on Youtube. He is eleven now and really killing it. Go look at his more recent work. Also saw him play "Hot For Teacher" with Brad Paisley of all people. When he was 6!

… Neil Peart would I think be impressed... Being a BIG Neil Peart fan I too can see some of the change over moves on this young man! Similar too that of Neil Peart, one of the greatest drummers of our time. In no special order my top 5 favorite drummers: Keith Moon John Bonham Neil Peart Buddy Rich Freddy Gruber......Neil Peart’s mentor 👍

That was a long song. The hardest part may have been memorizing it. Neil Peart was impressive in concert due to how effortlessly and instantly he could switch complex rhythms sixteen times in every song, but I bet even Neil couldn't play Tom Sawyer when he was freaking seven!
Nice trap set too, seven cymbals plus the hi-hat, double bass of course. Good to see he got a Zildjian hi-hat, thought he had something else in the first video.

Double bass and Zildjian hi-hat was the only way I rolled. Ringo couldn’t switch complex rhythms sixteen times without missing a few beats👍

Poor Ringo. Remember what McCartney or Lennon said when a reporter asked if Ringo was the best drummer in the world?
Hell, he's not even the best drummer in the band!

He couldn’t hold half the stick of Pete Best for sure👍 I watched Ringo blow a simple paradiddle of four even strokes played in order of left to right.....lol. Best left the Beetles due to constant disagreements with John Lennon.

I have to locate a VHS I have and transfer it to DVD. I was at CBGB’s in the Village, NYC. We were having our usual Friday night drum battle and who walks in was Debbie Harry from the rock group Blondie. She came over to the group I was playing with that night and sung three songs with us! An amazing person with an amazing voice! We all sat down and had a few drinks together......what a gig that night👍👍👍
