If you are referring to the stinger, I like them well enough. Anything for 'health'.

Kaywoodie? it messes with the value somewhat if you remove the stinger, I don' smoke Kaywoodie so I'm probably not the best source of info

Try with and without and see what you prefer... Then go with that.
There's no real right or wrong on this one. It's a matter of preference.

Some pipes smoke well with a “ stinger “ and some will not unless removed. For me, if a pipe smokes fine with the stinger it stays, it catches a good amount of tar👍

The few stinger pipes I have...I've removed the stinger. When I bought my first Comoy Grand Slam (60's), my mentor told me to get rid of it (the stinger)...I did and now wish I had at least kept it for posterity if for no other reason.

Good comments above. I’d smoke it with the stinger. If it doesn’t work for you, I recommend unloading the pipe. The one thing I’d recommend not doing is modifying or discarding the stinger. JMHO.

Great responses. Most stingers are removable, some are permanent. I'm the same as most here...the stinger works as intended for me (attracts/holds a bunch of moisture...which I wipe off after the smoke)...so I leave them in place. For those where they impede flow too much (not often), I remove them. Yep...personal preference.

I only have stingers in my old Kaywoodie and old Yello-Bole pipes. I keep them in case I ever decide to sell them.

However if you ever make the trip up here you can have your pick of any of my Kaywoodie or Yello-Bole pipes. Maybe this will serve to motivate you to make the trip. AJ
