Now you want a good smoke think about this. Grab a good pinch or three of Carter Hall then grab a flake of LTF and RUB it out good. Ok now take the Carter Hall and mix it with the LTF. Make sure you mix them good once mixed put the mix in your pouch. Now go get your catfishing like and bait and head for the lake. Now it's time to relax enjoy a pipe and drown some worms.

John ^^^^^^^^ sounds like a good blend👍 I’ve done that with Peter Stokkebey LBF...an excellent smoke! Sometimes when I have a half bowl of one blend and another half bowl of a flake tobacco I end up making some type of mystery blend. Many work out well.

I’m with you on this except for the PA. Never been able develop a tase for it. AJ I'm not a huge fan either. Just about any other OTC fits the bill, but PA smells and tastes like cigarettes to me. A very very very nice cigarette. Not any Marlboro or pall mall. No its more like a Benson hedges. It's quite nice if you ask me

I just had a bowl of CH for the first time yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised. It burned super hot though. I couldn't quite keep the heat tamed.

Next time air dry a bowl full for 45 to 60 minutes. Might have to also lower your cadence a bit. Hope you get to enjoy this old codger without burning your tongue or pipe!!

Yea, it might need some drying time. Your cadence is important. Smoke like a flake slow and easy. Or in other words. "Slow Ride Take It Easy".

I leave the pouch open for a day or two before smoking (if i can). It seems to have just the right amount of humectant that it stabilizes at a good moisture level for me without every getting dried out and crispy.

Carter Hall is probably my favorite tobacco that I’ve ever tried. I haven’t tried anywhere close to the number of tobaccos that most of you have, but I could easily make CH my all day, everyday smoke. I haven’t tried any others that I could say that about. It just tastes like pipe tobacco should taste, in my mind anyway.

Carter hall is quintessential pipe tobacco from the box to the pouch its pipe tobacco at its purest form, especially in taste and aroma.

In fact I think you'd be hard pressed to find a blend more pipe tobacco in essence.

How does carter hall compare to ERR or sutliff's match? The descriptions I'm reading here today make me think they may be in a similar vein, also making me want to pick up a tub!

I definitely enjoy Carter Hall, have some well aged. For me I still enjoy the blend, with the right moisture level. The original ERR or Sutliff’s Match is a bit more enjoyable complex tobacco 👍👍 PS Before you pick up a tub purchase a pouch, then go from there.

OK so my best analogy is the coffee you get at a diner. Its not as good as you can get at home, but it ain't bad, and when you need coffee, it can be darn good. It does the job.
Carter Hall is my go to when I am smoking while doing something else. If I am going to smoke to enjoy the smoke its Billy Budd Blonde (of course) or the like, but if I am driving, or playing dominoes with a friend, (don't laugh), or reading a really engrossing book, or doing work around the yard, Carter Hall is that wonderful constant smoke that doesn't distract your attention with loveliness but smokes well and tastes fine.

No its more like a Benson hedges. It's quite nice if you ask me Carter Hall and Prince Albert both somewhat resemble old-time cigarette blends, from before the rise of filter cigarettes. It's not an accident that PA tins used to say "smoking tobacco for pipe or cigarette" on the side

I find Carter Hall in a cob to be real comfort tobacco. When I've had a bad day, that cheers me up a bit. Especially if it's raining.
Carter Hall is the only OTC that I really like. I always have a pouch around. In case it rains

I have smoked a lot of Carter Hall over the years. It's a staple in my rotation. When all else fails, go to the Hall, lol.
