A real sweet, id say mild aromatic with plenty of Va, and an odd fig nuiton pouch note. All things considered its đź‘Ť. Anyone else have a hankerin for Carter hall or the prince?

Never heard it expressed that way, but you're right...duct tape of the tobacco world...that's good.

Decent dependable smoke. Left it years ago though for others. Still one of the best for breaking in a new briar.

Carter Hall is a Burley forward blend that smokes good when fresh and excellen with 8 plus years of agingđź‘Ť Not overly topped but needs some air drying if smoked fresh. I have pounds of it jarred and dated. As mentioned prior.....a great blend for breaking in a new briar!!!

Any body else find that carter hall is the duck tape of the tobacco world? It was one of my top 3 OTC blends for yearsđź‘Ťđź‘Ť. In no particular order....Captain Black Original Black & White, Carter Hall and Amphora Original. I was never a cigarette smoker, so Prince Albert I was never able to enjoy smoking!!!

It's such a good standby. @10furlongs left it (correct me if I'm wrong, Mark) for some of the better burleys out there. I'll always have some in stock, but the better burleys really tug at my heart. For breaking in, Five Brothers is great. Burns consistently all the way down, has more nic than CH, and goes great with coffee.

I always have some around. Half & Half too. Lately I smoke SWRA or Ready Rubbed Match when I am in the mood for that kind of tobacco.

SWRA is an excellent aromatic for a newbie as well as the experienced pipe smoker. Not goopy and good to the bottom of the bowl. I opened a pouch recently, it’s worth the money 👍👍👍

I could smoke it every day without any problems.

It takes a few bowls so it was evicted from the truck and relegated to non standard rotation. Im heart broken because its a great blend.

WOW, I’d bet it is one of those “ chemical “ toppings you reacted to? Sorry to hear that, don’t smoke the blend often. You have numerous other fine aromatics too also chose from. Has this ever happened with any other aromatic tobacco’s in the past?

I too am a big Carter Hall fan. Just realized though that I've not had a bowl in weeks.
Seeing this thread, after getting home just now from being in Chicago this week, motivated me to grab one of my pouches and a sweet little straight bulldog, and I'm lovin it!

… couldn't tell you how many tubs/pouches of CH I've smoked since 1960...even with my love of Lakelands and Matured Virginias, CH and many of the other older OTC blends I enjoy regularly...several days ago, I counted 6 tubs of CH bought in the last 4 months...tubs in the cellar date back to the 70's...

CH in a MM Legend was my first pipe smoke. I like it's flavor, but prefer other, stronger burley blends now. It's been several months since I had my last bowl of it, and I believe that I smoked it only 2-3 times over the last 12 months. But, I'll always keep some of it on hand.

None other yet, and the sad thing is I smoked this blend for a few weeks out of a pouch with no issues before. Now out of a tub it causes issues. Ah well there are too many other blends to be tore up over one. I like carter hall a tremendous amount, but I have a hard time getting past the pg that I taste way too easily. I get the same note from Prince albert as well.

This is my go-to OTC blend. Plus, it's all my father-in-law will smoke in his pipe.

I'm a fan. I always have a pouch at the ready. I especially like it for a quick smoke in a MM Mizzou when I take the dog out. Seems to just hit the spot.

I find Carter Hall in a cob to be real comfort tobacco. When I've had a bad day, that cheers me up a bit.
