It was totally unexpected but momentous to the point I have to share. Hopefully some of you have experienced a similar epiphany and are willing share. Earlier this evening while watching and listening to a Country Music show on TV, as my wife and I do as a matter of routine on Saturday nights, something exciting interrupted my routine. I had picked up my Mastro de Paja Calabash and loaded it with some McC Mature Va. #25 tinned in 2012. I don’t recall ever using this pipe with this particular blend. When I first lit the pipe I was immediately and surprising shocked by the experience. The aging has had a remarkable effect on the blend. I cannot recall when I’ve tasted any tobacco so naturally sweet, comforting, and so completely satisfying. The flavor was rich, robust, and so effectively different than ever before. I was briefly captivated by the taste and remarkably conscious of so many nuances that I’ve never experienced in any other blend. The effect over took all my senses and transported me to a higher level of pleasure that I can recall ever indulging. My eyes closed as I began slowly puffing this blend while all other outside stimulations completely disappeared as I was immersed into a state of wonderous bliss. I cannot begin to count the times I smoked this pipe with other blends or the number of tins of #25 I have burned, but now the combination of the two together is startling to the point I just have to tell someone. I have been smoking pipes for many years however, tonight’s experience transcends any previous unexpected gratifying titillation. I believe I may have posted a picture of this pipe before but I hope no one is offended by me sharing another look at this resplendent pipe. Please share any similar experiences you may have had. AJ

Pretty cool, thanks for sharing!
I had a similar experience smoking Nightcap in a WO Larsen rusticated brandy sitting in the back yard on a cool southwestern night.
Them moments really bring it home, and with aging cellars, looking for good times ahead!

I call this the "Nirvana Smoke" and it happens to me occasionally with assorted blend and pipe combinations, e.g., Nightcap, Old Joe Krantz, etc. Smoking the same blend in the same pipe alone does not necessarily repeat the experience. The stars must be aligned, biorythyms optimal, seated in a crystal pyrimid, or perhaps listening to your favorite country music show, for this to occur. YMMV.

The lyrics don’t necessarily pair with a nirvana smoke, but the title does.
But then maybe we could do a Weird Al rendition to make the lyrics match.

That sounds like an awesome experience. I think I've yet to experience the myself. I've come close, perhaps, but never like what you've described.
I'm waiting for that day to come.
Thanks for sharing.

Umami (spelling may be wrong) the part of the tongue that takes over the brain when tasting some thing blissful. It is supposed to be the greatest tasting experience there is. Very happy for you!

… I've had a fair number of experiences like that...some Native Elders have told me those are the beginning of my vision quest...I don't think so...however, I am one with Nature and my surroundings when moments like that happen...

Thanks for sharing. Thanks for sharing this experience. It is a wonderful experience I'm sure. I have an old yello-bole Canadian (50's era pipe) that no matter what I put in it...it is wonderful. Must be a magical pipe and only cost me $1.25 in a junk shop.

Yello-Bole pipes were made from Kaywoodie briar seconds, I still have and smoke at times my Yello-Bole Pug from 1968, it’s still a great smoker for those times a 20 minute smoke will do👌👍. This past Thursday I won on eBay a NOS Kaywoodie Lovat style pipe, somehow I was the ONLY bidder. At the end I paid $15.00, which was the starting bid, suppose to arrive tomorrow!!! This pipe was not posted correctly which is why I won at the end at a very cheap price! Nope, don’t need another pipe, but an old Kaywoodie NOS for $15.00.....how can a pipe smoker pass this bargain up!!! Below is a picture of a very rare ( so I was told by Frank @ Kaywoodie ) Yello-Bole Pug NOS that was made in the early 50’s. I won the pipe last year on eBay for $20.00👍👍👍 Still have not smoked the pipe, I’m admiring it to much....lol

When you find a pipe that sings...you just can't let it go...like a family member. Well....some family members

Aj, Had a similar experience this am. I'd loaded my recently acquired Mountbatten Pot (thanks AJ for the help on this one ) with some McC's 5100RC that I had acquired back in 2005 . Had some Chiccory Coffee 'Nawlins style on the side and had a almost mindless euphoria with a pipe I haven't had in a long time! I was reading the Sunday paper but can't remember a thing I read that's how good it was. Gotta savor these moments as they don't happen often !

In terms of identifying the flavor of it that I most like.
I think the transcendence depends on a bunch of things, the tobacco, the age of the tobacco, the pipe, and importantly for me being how long its been since my last pipe. The first pipe of the day is usually awesome, sometimes transcendent.

I have a reverse calabash poker that has provided a few perfect smokes, I struggle with english blends and it mellows out whatever component bothers me enough that I can enjoy everything about them.

I call it a Zone smoke. That's where the bar is set. Don't often get there, but a special pleasure when I do. Nice post, thanks for sharing.
