WOW...I never went back to school until after Labor Day on Long Island. I should know, never had my birthday while in school and I missed out on cake and cup cakes day, always felt like I’m missing something! Not a big deal I realize as we get older, in the past 3 years living with family I still had no birthday cake, at this point I’d much rather my birthday is looked and leaped over every year from now on!

My boys start back next Monday. My daughter, who is now a senior but on her 2nd year of college, doesnt go back until the 3rd week in August.
They go back earlier now because they take more time off during the year. When I was in school, only 17 years ago, we only had holidays off. Now it's a FEW weeks for major holidays and random days every month.

Down here kids are lucky, the schools are air conditioned, up North on Long Island they weren’t back throughout my school years. I guess now that the schools get locked and all widows are locked, each room must be using a split unit A/C by now....just a guess on my part.

Probably so. We didnt have AC in elementary or middle school in Michigan. I moved down here my freshman year and the teachers kept it so cold that I wore a hoodie everyday

In New York we always begin the day after Labor Day. @10furlongs Mark, when does the school year end? May 25 this year Sam; however, it does vary from county to county based on "snow days" missed. Conditions in the mountains in the eastern part of the commonwealth vary from those in the western part of the commonwealth which is relatively flat. All it takes here is a couple inches of snow and a good wind for school to be cancelled. People further north would consider us pretty lame. Admittedly, ice is a more serious threat in this climate zone which those further north may not fully appreciate. Still, Aug 1 until end of May is a long school year in my book. We used to get out second week of May back in the day.

Here in NC my youngest granddaughter of 11 had her last day of school the end of June, but goes back the middle of August. What’s not so funny, she missed MANY days with stomach problems this past school year. When I spoke to my daughter the other day I asked “ so any problems with my youngest during her summer vacation “? My daughter said...nope, so something is up with her going to school. My daughter said...”this year that complaint won’t fly unless I see it for myself “! I agreed with her👍

We'll have the grandkids for a few days this week before they return to school. Swimming pool is ready and the cupboards are stocked with Mac N Cheese.

I live for and love my grandchildren, the younger one’s love that Kraft Mac & Cheese.....I’d “ barf “ if I ate that garbage. They like when I stay over at my daughters, because I make them the real stuff!! Last year I made two over stuffed lasagna’s with mozzarella, ricotta and two different meats, also home made roasted garlic bread. Lasted for another 3 meals👌👍👍

Darin and @lonecoyote My son loves mac N cheese, specifically Craft. I’ve bought ‘healthier’ brands, but he doesn’t care for them. These days, i mostly make a homemade (Sam’s version), healthier mac n cheese. It tastes great and he likes it, but he still prefers the artificial Crap. My folks divorced when I was six. My step-mom is Italian and between her and my grandma (her mom), I learned how to make many Italian dishes, sauces, breads, etc The other day I made some Mac n cheese for Cooper and I put some plain pasta on the side. I was sautéing some garlic and onions for our pasta. Much to my dismay, she only wanted ketchup with her 🍝 pasta!

For us ancient ones (72) back in ancient times we only got national holidays off and started school after Labor Day. We weren't as advanced as they are today !

It's time for the little turds to return to stool. Very appropriate for some of the children I know.
