So I bought a 1 lbs. Bag of "boneyard" a while back. It does its job and isn't bad, but it was cheap enough for me to experiment with. Well... a 4" C clamp, a piece of 2 1/2" CLEAN PVC pipe, some wood and wax paper and here you have it... an extremely dense chunk of tobacco. It took about 2 weeks with a half turn everyday after the initial squeeze. The tin is just for size reference (Found a video on YouTube)

I'm sure you were hard pressed to make that.
Is this for storage or what?

I'm not quite sure yet. Was just something to try out and used the "cheap" tobacco for my experiment.

The way Boneyard is 'formulated' you may get some head spinning strong hits when you break a chunk off. Interesting experiment.

Cut an exact piece of wood that JUST fits inside the tin your using. Create a particular blend, put the clear wrap over the tobacco, put the piece of wood on top...now clamp....it’s that easy. For a cake no need to press firmly. If your going for a dense plug, you did exactly what I do, tighten down a bit more every day. I make a Maple Crumble Cake a few times a year. I’m in the process of making a dense plug with some overly moist/oily Cult Blood Red Moon & Cube Cut Burley.....should be a real enjoyable smoke in roughly 2 weeks👍 PS Are you enjoying the Andullo a lot???

@lonecoyote The Andullo has been excellent! I have some drying right now. I was also thinking about messing around with the blood red moon and mixing it with others. I went for a really dense plug. I just wanted to see how far down I could pack 2 oz. The biggest pita was getting it out of the PVC. But after a hammer and another block of wood, it popped right out.
@truculentfrogs before I jarred up the boneyard I put it in a huge bowl and mixed it all together. There were still chunks of cakes and flakes so they got broken up as well. But I swear every pipe I've had of it taste a little different.
I'll see how this stuff smokes later on tonight.

It can't be any worse than the first time I smoked a big bowl of Bayou Night ... or can it...

Did you start with a pound of tobacco and end up with 2.09 ounces? and if so whats the benefit of pressing?

Negative. I started out with that amount. Pressing lessens volume, not mass. I guess if it had been really wet, I would have squeezed some of the moisture out, but not the case with this blend. I kept it in a ziplock bag the whole time as well.

If you repeat the process and you are using the zip bag, couldn't you coat the outside of the baggie or the inner wall of the tube with mineral oil or the like to ease removal?

Lane 1Q would probably work about the same. I have some on hand and it has a slight bit more moisture than the Boneyard does.
I put the tobacco straight in the PVC with a piece of wood on each end. Between the wood and tobacco I cut a piece of wax paper. Then I put the whole thing in a bag. I'm not sure what would make it easier to remove, but if I keep this up, I'm sure I'll find something. I need something that wont get in my tobacco, and something that wount get pressed into it as well.

If your not using the tin method ...you...^^^^^^^^^^ are doing just fine your way. Just don’t use any oil, that will change the way your plug smokes to the point where you may just want to use it as a hockey puck.....lol

Not sure what purpose the bag would serve?

Well it was in a drawer and just seemed like the right thing to do.
Need to cut more wood to plug the ends to start another batch.
I'm ok with the removal and I can rig up something to make it a bit easier. Like make a small box that only the PVC hits, not the tobacco, and then knock it out with a hammer and a bolt.
