Today I had a serious conversation with my son..It seems that he's come to the conclusion that his father isn't going to live forever..I explained that after I'm gone to that great smoke shop in the sky I want him to make sure that his mother is OK.Then he asked what about your pipes.I need you to make a list of about how much they're worth.I know I don't have all that many years left, but it's not something that I dwell on.There's a line in a movie that says Get busy living or get busy dieing.,.Living is what I'm busy doing.I hope it's a long time before my son sells my pipes.

Let's hope he is an old man too, before you kick the bucket.

Larry I got a book, well a ledger in pipe room noting down how much my 50$ pipes really cost, wouldn't want the wife to not get some of what they are worth.

Make the list and put it with your will. Maybe attach a note to your son about the pleasures you got from smoking them. Who knows? He may treasure them as much as you do.

Oh forgot to add that I told my oldest son where the book is at. Added a few names of people in industry who would be honest brokers on pipes.

Wether it’s today or 30 years from now, everything is written down so it can be as smooth as possible for my daughter 👍. My older sibling and myself took on the responsibility when our Dad passed. My other 2 siblings were broke at the time, now they are both well off and I’m broke.....look at that odd cycle of life....lol.

Good Grief is right! Unless I'm reading this post the wrong way, anticipating your demise, and wanting to know what your pipes are worth, seems a bit disrespectful to me. If my kids asked me that, without me bringing it up first, I'd make sure that I gave away every pipe that I owned, or will them to be sold, and the proceeds donated to a favorite charity. I hope it is a long time before your son sells your pipes.

I am not worried about my son. He gets hysterical if I talk about my or my wife's demise. Nothing I can do about him. He and the wife have the phone number of a trusted friend to take care of the pipes and tobacco.

Cremation with pipes and cellar...all aboard! Good point! Having them burnt with you. I figger Heaven is nonsmoking and if you're unfortunate enough to be headed south the Devil will probably take it for himself.

AJ Make sure you designate WHO gets the pipes in your will if you divide up your stuff among other family members. Her in Texas, if you don't either seperately or to one person it goes to the state for distribution to someone in the family. I've left all my $s and real property to my daughter and she can do as she want's with my stuff. Check your states req. for estates and wills.

Let him know how much they mean to you and tell him the stories on how you acquired your favorites. He'll cherish those for sure.

I use to worry about my daughter selling my pipes at a garage sale after I'm gone but, no more............while being in need I'm selling them. Something I told myself I would never do again, times change I reckon and priorities change with them.

My 21 year old son smokes a pipe. My stuff isn't worth a lot, but I am starting to put a little cellar together. I told him that if anything happens to me, take it all. Don't let your mother throw or give my stuff away. He laughed, but he gets it.
