Learning from the Elders...something not done too much anymore. Knowledge lost, foolishness gained...that seems to be the way, today.
Just finished the last bowl of the day...Butternut Burley in a Cloister prince. A delightful smoke in a delightful pipe. Have a good evening, all.

2008 haunted bookshop in the Basil Meadows blasted flawed billiard with a booger swirl stem and an aluminum band. Love this pipe. Drinking red breast irish whiskey straight and man is it fine.

War Horse. I had (briefly) forgotten how good it is. In a Savinelli 626. I had briefly forgotten how good a 626 is.
Frank Zappa "Shut Up and Play Your Guitar" on the stereo. Loud-ish.
For those of you with an interest in wardrobe, I am wearing my ratty old robe, using it to keep my batman t shirt underneath from getting smokey.

So I woke up this morning about 6:30 and decided that I would really like to have a cup of coffee and smoke a bowl of early morning. Made the coffee walked outside loaded my bowl and I'm about to toast it off for the first time. Kind of curious as to whether or not I'll be arrested I hope some of you have bail money lol Why would you be arrested..? Were you wearing your birthday suit..? Because they are butt hurt about smoking you don't get to smoke everywhere you want to ruin this I'm good thanks

Jim, Do you notice any detectable difference between 30's Briggs and 90s Briggs? Thanks! It's not a fair comparison because of the differences that age can cause, plus the fact that it was made by House of Windsor in the 1990s, and by that time, HoW relaxed their quality control, and their blends were going deeper in the tar pits by the year. I like the 1936 Briggs quite a bit, though. Have you tried Sutliff's Match? It's pretty decent.

I had a feeling that this was the case because I cannot tell you how many people I've talked to who have told me that Briggs was just bad tobacco. But these were mostly people who didn't have a chance to smoke pre-HOW Briggs. When I talk to older folks, or people who have just been smoking pipes longer, they always tell me Briggs was a pretty good all-day smoke. I'll have to get that Sutliff match, thank you!

Unknownpipesmoker ^^^^^^^^^ Iβm hooked on Sutliff ERR Match.....if you smoke it fresh itβs good...but let a few ounces air dry a few days....depending how moist yours arrives as well as to your liking. The first few pounds I ordered was moist and air dried in a large glass tray for 4 days and mixing every day before jarring. The last 2 pounds arrived in the same factory sealed bags was so moist it was sticking to my hands. Air dried a full week before jarring. Can definitely be an all day smoke, does not bite if pushed. My FAVORITE Match blend to dateππ

My FAVORITE Match blend to dateππ I'm hooked on the ERR as well and another, non-match burley heavy mix that C&D have out that kind of surprised me: founding fathers. It's more of a true but very light aro with the fruit casing which in my opinion just compliments the natural full flavors in the very fine burley in the blend. Just wrapped up the longest day with a grabow rusticated bent omega with an abs stem. Tobacco of choice; an odd one for me, but very tasty one: vanilla custard. The place smells wonderful now. I bid you good morning.
