As well as a musician Hildegard is a Doctor of the church , a mystic & polymath, with extensive medical knowledge. I am sure tobacco would have been recommended as a herbal treatment from the extensive monastic herbal gardens of the day, for relaxing after a hard days Gregorian Chant. |

The only problem, Stan, Is that tobacco got to Europe about 400 years after she died. But I'm sure she would have recommended it nonetheless.

Maybe the Irish got there with St. Brendan before Columbus, history is written by the victors, some mystical ballarny , then again we all know the Vikings were there in 976 A.D on the 17th April, smoking naughty substances . I read about it in the Monty Python official History of America. |

Thanks again, I like every kind of music, I have some favourites on my tablet that I play again & again, some night time Gregorian chant by Ampleforth Abbey , and Carthusian Chant by Parkminster UK. I often listen to hymns walking Pop, some Salvation Army , and Anglican Cambridge Choir more often than not, when out in daytime. Then there is always the Beach boys...I will listen to the new videos. |

sorry for posting so many..... Why apologise Father Abbot cannot get enough sacred Chant, I believe Mother Superior takes the sisters on a delightful Sunday picnic to the hot Club Med Costa beaches , they enjoy a lovely Hot Dog barbecue, and game of croquet, singing the " Beaches are Alive with the Sound of Playgirls " . But I wear a hair shirt myself in the spirit of Saint Thomas More and flog myself with Scotch thistles, it is something I am smoking , pardon me, Holger Danske Viking special. I will have a Kentucky Buffalo Bourbon to that... |
