My first pipe and first tobacconist was a place called Harriels Pipe Shop in Dadeland Mall south Florida. They had a bulk tobacco called "Cocoa Plum". Undoubtedly a renamed Lane or other Company's blend. But if anyone has any idea what I'm talking about. I've been chasing that flavor experience for years. It was definitely vanilla and a dark fruit flavor. Let me know please!!

Hi and welcome. I wish I could help you but I'm sure there are some here who could at least point you in the right direction.

Just wondering if you’ve tried a Lane Limited RPL-6? The characteristics you mentioned are in this blend. RPL-6 has been sold in many tobacco shops under different names. The blend you mentioned may have been blended using RPL-6 as a base and had other tobaccos added. Good luck on your quest.

Welcome to the Patch, cubish. I lived in Miami during the time you spoke of (40's-90's), while I don't remember Harriels, I worked in Kirk's Pipe Shop in the Gables and I remember Kirk saying that most of the other shops used Lane tobaccos. He for the most part blended his own house brands and sold them all over the country through his store. He was a great friend and mentor...started me on my Comoy pipes...wish he had mentioned Barling. He had the most amazing collection of Blue Ribands, Extraordinaires and Charatans.

Thanks guys. My father was Superintendent of Dade county School systems. And I left Homestead after Hurricane Andrew. I live in Knoxville TN and this is the first time I've picked up a pipe in years. Thanks for the info guys. Despite my rediculous schedule with my food truck. I hope to be on here and Cloudy Nights often. Observing the night sky is when I get most of my pipe enjoyment.

I looked into RLP-6. Its more of a ribbon cutting. The Harriels was a course cut Cavendish. Almost completely black. But under a light some of the cut was a deep red or purple. I bought a huge box of one ounce packs from pipes and cigars to start my quest. Thanks everyone. I'll keep you posted

Warm welcome from the San Francisco Bay! Best of luck in your search... I went through a similar quest back in the early 70s.

Welcome from the Mile High City! Glad to have you with us. Hope you find your old favorite. I recommend that you look through the Lane tobaccos here: www.tobaccoreviews.com/brand/35/lane-limited and see if one sounds like it.

Hello Eric, I know this is an old post and it appears that you've found some good aro's in the meantime, but did you ever give Harriels a telephone call? You may just be able to ascertain the blend and name over the telephone with someone from the shop (maybe the owner?). Just a thought, and here's their information for your review: HARRIELS TOBACCO SHOP (DBA Name) Main Address: 11401 S DIXIE HWY MIAMI Florida 33156 305-252-9010

Curious, was anything you found close to what it was you were looking for?

Very cool. Thank you. I personally thought they closed when Dadeland Mall was destroyed by Andrew. But I shall.

Well after 15-20 years I'm sure my palate has changed. Evident in some of the Latakia stuff I've tried appealing to me vs. detesting them . But Blacksburg by Sutliff is in the realm and Black Cordial

I did not know about the Dadeland Mall and hurricane Andrew. I just tried to get through on that 305 area code number, and was told the telephone number is no longer in service. Sorry about that
