It has been more than five years since Rusty passed. I still miss the old guy. He had the sweetest disposition you could ask for in a dog. His passion was hunting squirrels in the back yard and boy did that dog love water. Never in your face or mean to anyone. He loved everybody. I wish I had spent more time with him, but was a very busy working man during his time with us. He was about 13, when we had to put him to sleep. We lost our other little dog, Larz to Leukemia about three months later, at the age of 7. (I am getting choked up just typing this. It was a shock losing both of them so close together.) Larz was a little fireball of an American Eskimo. He was a tough little dude. He could jump straight up and take a ball out of my hand at shoulder height. He loved Christmas because he liked to tear up the wrapping paper. It could take an hour cleaning up the paper mess that resulted from his mayhem, but it was our tradition. After his bath he was like a Tasmanian Devil, running around until he was fluffed up again. Good dogs are a gift. From above.

That is really tragic I'm sorry that Rusty isn't with us any more and you're right dogs are gifts but maybe you were a gift to him?

Don, good looking dogs, glad they brought you many years of happiness together 👍 But sorry for your loss. Our dogs become part of the family, at times even closer!!! i truly miss Ringo my black Lab and Snoopy my Ferret....they were inseparable. Even slept together and had the run of the property. I trained Ringo and Ringo trained Snoopy....never let Snoopy out of his sight, or would pick him up and bring Snoopy right back. Rest In Peace Ringo and Snoopy, we’ll be together again one day♥️❤️

I am reminded of cats and birds being buddies.

Jack, when Marbles had her first litter and had to eat, Snoopy went into the basket to keep the kittens warm. One would think they were doggiekittens, but I knew the male cat involved in this fiasco. If one of the kittens got out of the basket, it was Snoopy that gently carried the kitten back, simply amazing. I have pictures of Rocky my raccoon and Ringo playing on my property as well, I need to do some picture searching!!

You had some great years with your dogs, don. We had our rescue dog (Missy) put down a few months ago. The wife was beside herself. I think the cat (Stanley) didn't know what to do cos when we got her as a kitten she tried feeding off the dog, and the dog lay back and let her. Stanley had to grow up fast.

Don, you started a great thread for animal lovers👍 I’m still looking for pictures of Rocky, Ringo and Snoopy the ferret playing outside. I might have to go through my photo albums as well, Here is Luke, my granddaughter’s dog that spends a lot of time with me in my room when my son and family are gone for a few days, I get to dog sit. Luke sleeps on my bed and sleeps with me at night as well, “ it's frowned upon “ If Luke spends time with me if while they are home....go figure! Below is Luke sleeping with his head on my pillow while I’m at my work bench in my room, two different times. The knucklehead likes clean sheets....lol. Luke is a Plott Hound, the State dog of North Carolina.

Ky was my first Catahoula, he loved my wife, slept on the floor by her side, cancer got him. He had a glass eye and a blue eye.

We started with a female tri-color Chihuahua named Cassi Guadalupe Maria, then we got a rescue blonde male, named Pepe (Pepesdad1), to that we added another rescue that was found in a dumpster about 3 hours from death...no teeth, no hair he was a mess. We called him Pierre as he looked a little French (he had lost so much jaw bone that his lower jaw had receded). Cassi died from heart failure after 14 years, Pepe was beside himself went she went, Pierre had seen so much death on the road that he ran from her body and hid. Pierre lost interest in life after Pepe passed at age 15 and he too passed after a few months from loosing his "brother". We cried for 3 months and couldn't stand it any longer and went to the shelter and found a little white female Chihuahua whom we named MissElli. She is a beautiful sweet little girl who rarely if ever barks. Her previous owner we think was an older lady who passed and her kids didn't want to bother with a dog. MissElli is the apple of our eye now. Because she has epilepsy she can't be left alone...so she goes were ever we go in a stroller. Never barks in the store and puts a smile on everyone's' face when they see her.
