Couple of days ago I filled my Chris Besse poker with semi-dry Plum Pudding and completely forgot about it. Found it tonight and had a wonderful smoke. Now I'm thinking of preparing pipes ahead. Anybody does that?

I do prepare my tobacco’s ahead of time and let air dry. I do know a few pipe smokers that prepare pipes the night before, for an early morning smoke with coffee. I see no reason why not. Give it a try with a few of your favorite tobacco’s, see what works best for you. Some pipe smokers will smoke half a bowl and finish the rest the next day. I can not do it, I tried and find the tobacco a bit ashy tasting for my liking. Every pipe smoker has their own way of enjoying the hobby👍👍👍

I sometimes rub out a higher moisture content flake and load up a pipe for the morning. They smoke great that way.

If driving, I'll preload Cobs for the trip. A lot more convenient (and safer too).

Makes that first smoke of the day easy !!

Sometimes I make up several bowls in advance. It depends on the occasion or how I feel at the time. I’ll admit that prefilled bowls are a great convenience.

Hardware stores have assorted corks that you can trim for depth to cap off prepared bowls for travel.
Fill the night before and cap off for travel in the morning.
I typically dailyload my pipes as I smoke them though... If I am catching a flight, I use the method posted above while waiting for a flight.

I've never done that on purpose, but I had to leave a pipe overnight once. But with the humidity here in Northern Ireland I'm not sure it dries out much.

I have not as of yet prefilled a bowl. I don't really have a need to since I don't smoke in my car.

I use a wind screen to cap off a pipe that is loaded but not ready for action. Works well.

Can someone tell me the difference between Plum Pudding regular and special reserve?

Yo pepe
The Special Reserve was the winner in the CPCC18 blind tasting. The Seattle Pipe Club had their usual soiree in the former Playboy hooch and we puffed both the SR and the original (very original, from Joe's release batch). Both were excellent, but the SR was noticeably more interesting and complex. It in fact uses some different ingredients.

WOW Thanks for the tip...I just got finished ordering the regular and didn't know about it. I am going to call P&C tomorrow and get the SR instead.

I got lucky with SR. I ordered some regular from P&C, but they were out and sent SR instead. And not oz for oz, tin for tin!

For all the banter that goes about how bad P&C is, whenever a mistake has been made, They rectified it and I too came out ahead. SP.com is definitely superior when buying pipes “The pipe you see is the one you get”, and their shipping is a little faster, but all the tobacco’s I buy are with the intent of cellaring away, so I am not worried about it taking a week to get to me for free shipping.

I had my issues with P&C, but I have no choice in that matter - Anniversary Kake and Ten to Midnight are not available anywhere else :-)

I live in a sweet spot for east coast shipping. It takes 3 days at the most to get my orders, most of the time only 2.
I haven't had the SR. But I do have 2 tins of regular Plum Pudding that I ordered months ago and still havent opened. From the looks of my current smoking rotation, I'll get to one of those cans in about a year.

I’m less then 150 miles away from Smokingpipes, they ship Priority Mail. One time I placed my order very early on a Tuesday morning, by late Wednesday afternoon the package was at my front door waiting for my signature. I’ve had issues with serious mold in C&D tinned blends, which was rectified over the phone, replaced immediately. They were aware of the issue from many other customers. I was told to discard the bad tobacco’s and new will be on its way by the end of business day, which it was always. If you purchase an Estate pipe from them, once it arrives it looks better then what was pictured. That’s one online pipe & tobacco retailer I highly recommend 👌👍👍

Mold in Seattle Pipe Club tins, that is unsettling (I have 5 8 ounce sealed tins in my Cellar). How many people have been affected by mold in SPC tins? Are some blends more susceptible than others?

Did anyone mention mold in any SPC tins? I’ve had mold in C&D and GLP tins, both canned at the same place. I’ve never had any mold in SPC tobacco’s 👍👍

There has been no mention or even suggestion in this thread or any other that I can recall that mold has been found or suspected in SPC tobacco products, and namely here, Plum Pudding Reserve. Getting back on track, SPC Plum Pudding and also the Reserve version are both wonderfully rich and satisfying blends.

I’ve smoked both SPC blends, but I must admit I much prefer the overall taste and aroma of Plum Pudding Reserve. It’s worth the extra money 👍

Didn't the Special Reserve just add perique to the regular version?

Sorry I somehow misread things; probably due to not having my glasses on at the time.

Didn't the Special Reserve just add perique to the regular version? To my palette it tastes like they added AK to PP.
