Hi all, About 15 years ago, I bought my dad a beautiful Bjarne freehand. It's his "daily driver", but he only smokes it several times a week. I was packing him a bowl of Shortcut to Mushrooms this afternoon, and I noticed a sizeable crack in the shank, right where the stem is attached. Is there any way to fix this?

It can be properly repaired with a 2 stage epoxy and clamped for 24 hours, plus a fancy band for strength and it will look like it was made that way originally. Look up Dave g here on the Patch, send him the photo and ask if he can take on the repair. He’s extremely meticulous. Good luck👍👍

Best way I can see to do this is drill it out and sleeve it, then fill the crack and refinish. I doubt if you'll get that crack to come together very easily anymore. This is caused by one shoving the stem into too tightly it seems.

I can sand, and refinish a pipe, but this is far outside my bailiwick. I'm just hoping for a suggestion of IF it can be fixed, or somewhere to send it. I have every confidence that YOU could fix it, but I know you're in flux right now.

Maybe send it to Tim West, he's a pipe-maker and a well known repairman. link
