I would be SO inclined to brew this stuff like coffee, if I knew it wouldn't make me sick. Geez, what an aroma.

Dry some really well and grind it to a powder ... makes a nice snuff!

I have some on the way and am anxious to try it. I'm smoking my second bowl ever, and enjoying it immensely. Let it dry for about 45 minutes. Makes all the difference.

Are you smoking Sutliff's or Lanes? IIRC its cased with a bit of cocoa, which explains the aroma. Lots of burley flavour here though for us burley junkies. I just got 4 oz's of Sutliff's and so far I've been very pleased with my purchase.

A bit of cocoa is putting it lightly, IMO, but I don't feel that the casing overwhelms the smoke in the least. It's just smooth tasty burley.

Let me tell you right off the bat,,,Sutliff did an outstanding job with their match. Just make sure you dry yours out to a preference that suits your smoking preference 👍👍

I wasn't going to, but you drove me to it. I just packed another pipe with this stuff.
The Sutliff RR is very, very, very good. Such a cool, easy smoke, no bite, not too hot, a little hard to keep lit, but otherwise perfect. Aroma, taste, everything.
I am surprised to see some people rating the Lane blend (which I haven't tried) over this stuff. Has anyone here tried both? I think Jim has. What are your thoughts, if so?

The kitchen smelled as if I were baking dark chocolate chip cookies👍

Ive only sampled the lane version but after that sample I was convinced never to stray from the sutliff version. I get a slight chemical taste from the lane version. It also tends to bite me so I wont be doing that again.

When Lane Ready Rubbed was first re-released, I thought it was a bit ho-hum. After they increased the molasses later on, I think it has become a pretty good blend. I found the Sutliff Match to be OK but not exciting. I think the Sutliff is a bit more cocoa and the Lane is a bit more molasses when you compare the two.

Purchase a half pound of each, blend together, the end results would be.....it tastes just like the original ERR👌👍

I buy the Match in 1 lb bags and off load them to an empty OTC tub and have had no moisture issues whatsoever.

Here are my reviews of both. ERRMatch:It packs well, stays lit, and is a very cool, consistent smoke all the way to the bottom with no bite, though it has a slight roughness at times. Nutty with a molasses flavor and a little cocoa along with a slight sharpness, and a bit of earth and wood. I can see this being a decent starter burley for someone who has never tried the genre, and I can certainly see it being a regular rotation blend. Has a mild nicotine hit. Burns a little slow due to being a cube cut, cool and clean with a very consistent taste. Requires a few relights, and leaves very little moisture in the bowl. Has a nice after taste. An all day work and play smoke that may not be complex, but has enough going for it to hold your interest. This Match is very close to the original. I spent a weekend comparing the two versions. The original seemed a little fuller, deeper in the molasses taste, and that's the only difference I can tell. The cut and look of the tobacco is the very same. The more I smoke it, the better I like it. In a blind taste test, it would be very hard to tell which was which. EDIT: The batch I got in the Spring of 2015 tastes as I have described it above. However, the cut was changed to a rough cut with some small chunks, and the tobacco is lighter is color. This version burns slower, but at least it tastes the same. Others have reported the same change in cut. Wish they would have left it alone. 10-20-2016 Update: Apparently, Sutliff has listened as the productions of this year's Match ERR are exactly like my original description. I gave four stars to the original. Lane Limited Ready Rubbed: The burley is nutty with a light molasses and deeper cocoa taste. The Virginia is far in the background, and is sweet with some grassiness. The toppings amplify the cocoa much more than they do the molasses. Has little nicotine. Won't bite or get harsh. Burns slightly fast, even and cool with a smooth consistent flavor that lasts to the finish. Very few relights needed. No dottle, and hardly any moisture is left in the bowl. Has a very pleasant after taste. Is an all day smoke.
Comparing this to the original and the Sutliff ERR Match, I note a few differences. Sutliff's is more of a coarse cut. The original was a cube cut, and Lane’s version is small cut ribbon flakes, all of which will effect the blends’ respective burn rates. All have the same flavors, though I notice the molasses in Sutliff's is slightly less deeper in taste than the original. The molasses in Lane's does not have the same depth of flavor as the ERR. Lane states that they are using the original recipe, but after spending a few days smoking all three incarnations, my perception is that Lane’s has more cocoa and less molasses than the original does, which of course, lessens the effect of the molasses that was fairly prominent in ERR. It also has a little more PG than the original, but that mostly disappears by the half way point.
The Sutliff ERR Match is closer than the Lane version is to the original. It has less cocoa than the Lane product, with more molasses, and the Match could fool some smokers into thinking it was the original in a blind taste test, except for the cut of the tobacco. Lane’s version is in the ball park, though the much deeper cocoa notes would give it away even in a blind taste test. This blend reminds me more of Chatham Manor than it does Edgeworth Ready Rubbed. Because of the differences, it gets three stars, not four.
Edit: 1-22-2017: I have been smoking the Lane RR from a freshly opened tub this past week, and I see the cut has been changed. It's a little closer to the original than what I had smoked, which was from a tub I bought the first week of its release. Also, the molasses was as prominent as the chocolate, instead of playing second fiddle as in the earlier tub. Obviously, somebody at Lane paid attention to the criticism. As of now, I will say this version is much closer to the original. The only differences now is that the molasses in the original was a little deeper and took a little more of the lead than this Lane version. The very mild sharp note of the original, which I did not find in my first go-around is now present, though slightly less so than the original. Overall, this is now a better, more faithful copy of the original. Three and a half stars.

I get a slight chemical taste from the lane version. Several people have remarked about a chemical taste in the Lane version. That's enough to keep me away. Here are my reviews of both. Great reviews, Jim. Thanks. 👍

If Heine's Blend were offered in bulk, it would give Ready Rubbed a horserace. I don't know why they don't. The increased bulk sales would match or exceed their profit margin in the tub, imo.

No. It is a straight ahead classic of the OTC generation. I do not consider it aromatic at all. Perhaps JimInks will spot this and post his review of it. I've always had trouble describing this blend, but found it to be better than average in its field and only negative being somewhat pricey by the tub.

Since I asked, here's my Heine's Blend review. Btw, I like it best in a cob.
A typical American over the counter burley based blend that's been around since the 1930s. The burleys have a touch of cocoa, some molasses and earth and a rather nutty flavor with a touch of coumarin replacing the deer tongue that was once used, which provides a light spice note. The topping is a mild pineapple which adds a little sweetness and tang. I also get a very slight hit of lemon and citrus. The burleys are cubed, crushed plug, and small diced flake cut which make for a even, cool burn with a very consistent taste, requiring almost no relights. Leaves virtually no moisture in the bowl. Won't bite or get harsh. Light on nicotine, and not a deep tasting mixture, but it's an easy going all day smoke with a flavor that wears well for the smoker no matter how often it's smoked. Three and a half stars.

The reason HB is not sold in bulk or a tin is due to the FDA rules. I had talked Sutliff into doing 1.5 ounce tins, but everything changed, and it can't be done now.

JimInks your description makes me want to try it but I'm really on the fence about a) buying a whole tub and b) pinepple flavoring. Thanks for the info though.

Not possessing a palate like Jim's, I don't even pick up on it. I think you would find that it is no more aro forward than Holiday.

The pineapple is light, doing little more than adding a tart twist to the flavor, though you will likely notice it a tad more in a cob.

Just got 4oz of Ready Rubbed in from SP. I get no chocolate aroma from it. It smells nothing like the stuff from my last order. My last order was in early June, and I didn't pay much attention to it until now. Bad batch, or just let it sit for awhile?
