Get yourself an inexpensive Cob and do a gravity fill, lightly tamp and then light up and your ready to smoke. Sounds like you need to try Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic 👍👍

I roll my own with favorite pipe tobaccos very often... tastes great, convenient, rarely ever have to relight, just let er hang off your lips and smoke at leisure, great when doing chores, etc... you got the right idea!

I was never a cigarette smoker, so if you can roll one fast give it a try. A local guy that I supply most of his tobacco as a gift...he’s so broke he lives in a tent......near a wooded area by R/R tracks. Last time I gave him a pound of Medal of Valor bulk and he really enjoys as a RYO. He can roll a cigarette super fast.

Sometimes I roll 10 or more at a sitting just so I'll have em ready to go. When I roll in advance like that I keep them in a tightly sealed Mason jar to keep the moisture level just right. Great for walks, garden work, whatever... very enjoyable zero hassle smokes ...and 1000% better flavor than store-bought yuk cigs.

Quick question... What do you mean by less smelly? And are you referring to rolling your own with pipe tobacco or just ryo cigarettes in general?

If you look at smoking as the fastest way to get a nicotine fix, you might be be better off going through the drive through to buy coffin nails. Mainlining with a syringe would probably be faster though. No smell either. Pipe smoking isn’t about speed, to the contrary. |

Packing a pipe is part of the ritual of pipe smoking. It's a helluva lot easier than rolling a cig. I have no idea if it's easier or not, having never smoked cigarettes, but I enjoy the ritual too. It's part of the "thing". P.S. Gravity load here too. |

Give it some time...pipe smoking is certainly more ritualistic than lighting up a cigarette or a cigar, but once you get the hang of it it it really isn't a pain, and the smoke I think you will find more rewarding.

I gave up those dastardly cigarettes years ago - never again. For me I either just pack a grabow or a cob with some budget tobacco like prince Albert or grab a Fuente cigar. On road trips I take several Fuente maduros with me.

This is not to say that I haven't enjoyed my large collection of pipes, the ritual, or the extra fullness of flavor they bring to the smoke these last 40+ years. But always being constantly on the go requires that I do what I have to do even though sometimes it ain't pretty or briar. RYO pipe tobacco cigs has worked for me for many years on frequent occasion, to include very vintage $300 tinnage of Bell's Three Nuns or whatever mood is stricken. I like having options, and feel it is a choice beyond reproach or criticism. I have not committed sacrilege or forsaken the sacred pipe for the RYO gods, I swear...

Leather pipe roll made by my son makes it easy. Room for three pipes,lighter, cleaners and tobacco (pouch and 1tin. That gets me through any trip. Plus I keep 2 cobs in my truck.

"Raw" Natural Unrefined Rolling Papers, size 200 (2 together), sometimes I cut shorter lengthwise depending on my need tobacco & timewise. I also use a clear natural rolling cellulose brand (can't remember the name right now) but it is sold wherever such papers are sold. Imparts no paper taste at all. I roll them up fat and fairly tight, microwave for about 40 seconds, enjoy the sweet smell of fresh baked cookies, and smoke. |

I chewed Redman when I played baseball in high school. We still could back in the day even though it was starting to be frowned upon on. I dipped Copenhagen in the service because it made more sense than trying to carry smokes in the field. I almost blacked out and vapor locked the only time I tried nasal stuff which was a pretty good indication that one wasn't for me.
I never liked cigars and haven't smoked a cig in about fifteen years. My bar days are long behind me which is good because I can't imagine sitting at the bar without having a smoke. I can go two days without a pipe, no issues these days. I just fire a up bowl whenever I can and feel like it.

This relates to the OP's first posting, in that he had no comfortable place to smoke a pipe. If he gave his city perhaps he could be directed to a B&M with a smoking lounge.
