I'm starting this thread not knowing what the heck I am going to say. Okay, you guys knew that, right? I'm a sucker for names. This sounded friendly. I almost bought an 8 oz tin. Glad I didn't, but it would not be a bad purchase. You with me? I'll explain. The tin note on this was... just as you'd expect. It's English.
Lighting it up was as easy as lighting up tobacco.
Smoking it in my GBD, giving it an advantage.
Virginia - Every once in a while you know it's there.
Black Cav - This, to me, is done really well. It's there as a mixing component, nothing else.
Orientals and Latakia - Blended well to give this a smoky, medium strength draw. It's robust, even though the Black Cav affects the tone. These are the main players, which start out light, but build up steam.
In the distance I can hear Mr. Pease calling out, "I GOT YOU!!!!" It's a GLP concoction all the way. The reason I can say that is that The Englishes I test/taste differ in the "Hwang Factor." Penzance has what many would call the ultimate and unique Hwang. Many of the cheaper tobaccos have no Hwang at all. You just get the separate flavors, or maybe the sum of them if they are blended well.
PS Oriental Supreme, which I mention a lot, has a similar Hwang to Penzance, though I have not had any aged PS to compare.
This Hwang had GLP all over it. I gotta love companies and blenders that take up the torch for old name companies, though I really don't know how old TF is. I do know that I could have loaded this, closed my eyes, and known it was GLP. I looked it up a few minutes ago for verification.
I'm going to say GLP hit a double with this. It's a really nice tobacco. I just have to wonder if any of GLP's other blends are a match for this.
Now, don't get me wrong. It's great tobacco that I am sharing my bed with at the moment. Bully the Chickenhearted has left the immediate area. I am not sure if I floated a biscuit on him or it was the tobacco. Ooops, mommy is eating a snack and he's all over that.
This could be an all day smoke. It is light on the tongue, even with moderate puffery.
It would be a good breakfast smoke. If I were a GLP nut and did not find my normal blend I would be safe with this.
As a tobacco it gets 4 of 5 stars. It really is good
As an English it's about the same, maybe a little less due to non-originality
Hwang Factor is a 4.5 of 5. This is in the MLH (Major Lead Hwang Big Leagues). I say that because GLP is a really great company and this Two Friends measures up to it in all aspects.
I'm not going to diss this by giving it an Originality Factor. I have already explained that.
Satisfaction - 4 of 5 also. Steady top to bottom. Only lit it once. It delivered a satisfying smoke.
