I had an old Cuban neighbor when I lived in California..
Him: I never buy green bananas
Me: why not?
Him: I don’t know if I will be around to eat them.

Cardboard oil cans and the push in nozzles I have a case of Vavoline in those. Are they collectable yet?

Cardboard oil cans and the push in nozzles How about the rack of unbranded oil in tall spout glass jugs? Or, now that I mention it, 23 cents a gallon regular gas?

We paid 12cents a gallon for diesel, groceries for a 15 day shrimping trip cost 100$, we saved the big crabs to pay for the fuel, sold them for .50 cents a dozen. If you made 600$ a month you had a hell of a job, new car 1500$, I think we appreciated what we had back then as we didn’t have a lot. Now we’ve got too much and are slaves to our things.

Couldn’t agree with you more! This new generation is to materialistic, plus price means nothing to them when it comes to designer clothes, pocketbooks or even shoes!

gas wars at times in Lauderdale area where I wintered '62 thu '67. one place near me had 3 stations on 4 corners. Guys up on ladders changing prices more often than their undies. I'd wait till near closing time then fill 'er up. VW bus with homemade bunk bed in back, plenty baccy & decent pipes.

Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY In 1975, my cousin had one of the rare versions of the Plymouth Roadrunner with the six pack under the hood...even though gas was relatively cheap, that car went through gas like jiminks goes through tobacco! Everyday, a local school bus driver parked the topped off tank near my cousin's home, so he availed himself of the free gas...the taxpayer subsidized gas was really cheap for him. Cousin Sonny spent most of his life in the custody of Colorado authorities not long after that.

trailboss , I guess he wasn't exactly a Sterling citizen! A real pillar of the community! He was busted for burglary of a store that his brother in law managed, the judge gave him the ultimatum to join the Army or go to prison during the Vietnam war. He got a cushy job installing phones stateside at Ft Carson, of all places...his hometown. That is how he got the Roadrunner, eventually going AWOL, and he went downhill from there even worse. Oh yeah....at my grandparents 50th anniversary, he pruned the money tree that everyone contributed to back at the house while everyone else was enjoying the festivities next door. He put the funk in dysfunction.

The summer of 69 my buddy and I lived in his family's cabin on Galveston Bay, and for beer and gas money we would pull the net behind a 16'Ouachita aluminum boat with a 10 hp Scott - Attwater motor. We caught enough assorted shrimp, crabs and fish in 3 mornings to buy beer, burgers and gasoline for for the entire week. That was pure freedom.

I like to ponder on the memorable moments of my life. I had a good time for most of it. I had my time in the sun, being young, strong, good looking and care free. It may be in the past, but I still have a few great times left in me. When I see young people doing their own things, I wish them all the best. We are planning motorcycle trips to Oregon, North Carolina, and a few other places. Plus we want to do a 3 week tour of Europe, and a trip to Quebec. Most people in the world don't get these opportunities. I will be 68 next month and I am hoping to be cancer free on my 2 year follow up scans on my birthday. If not, I will have no comments. My wife and I are just happy to have the chance to grow old together.

If you are going from Texas to Oregon, the trip could take you on I-10 (PHX) or I-40 (Flag)...in either regard if you go through Phoenix or Flagstaff, give us a heads up maybe we can plan a meetup and hang out.

Two things indicate that you're getting old:
You tend to forget things You repeat yourself You tend to forget things
