Two things indicate that you're getting old:
You tend to forget things You repeat yourself You tend to forget things

My grandfather use to say β you know your getting old when you get up from the throne and flushed, but donβt remember if you used toilet paper β. I always thought that was quite funny when I was young....now I make sure I pay attention.....πππ

So do I! Bed side phoneDesk phone, and there's the chrome Phone number directory on the left I talked about in a earlier thread. That's brilliant. Is that an egg timer beside the phone? In a sense it is but, back when I was a very young man these were made and used to time your long distant calls to be 3 minutes only because long distance was very expensive, not free like today. They came in all different configurations and were made up until the 70's I believe but, all for timing duration of long distant calls. That's state to sate and even county to county depending on how big your state was. That one was made in the early to late 50's.

But, then I remember when a pouch of Bull Durham was 6 cents and it even came with papers.

You recognize a Bates List Finder. Never been used...maybe a good tool for all my internet passwords...in erasable pencil of course. The wife paid a buck for it. The first Smart phone directory. The next generation was the Rolodex - I have one of those sitting on my work desk as we speak.

I first figured out I was approaching "old" when I read the annual "Mindset List" from Beloit College and was amazed at what incoming freshmen were clueless about given their age. Now I read that this is the last year Beloit will sponsor the list, I suppose because it is either frightening their professors as they discover how old they are or they need to develop a similar list about the professors. Note that the list will live on under other sponsorship. Leading this year's list: 1. Among the iconic figures never alive in their lifetime are Victor Borge, Charles Schulz, and the original Obi-Wan Kenobi Alec Guinness. 2. Outer space has never been without human habitation.

The first indication that i was getting older than i wanted to be was when my 3rd grade lunch box was a collector's item.

I keep one of those yellow 45rpm record adapters on my keychain (I call em 45 spiders) and a student asked me what it was. Not one single person in the graduate level class I am teaching knew what it was.
I though records were making a comeback.

You know you are getting old when you bend over to pick something up and you look around for anything else you might do as long as you are already down there.

You know your getting old when you forget your log on password for Windows!! Thatβs my ex from β75!!! Had to go pick up my software and boot disk to create a new password. One....I NEVER USE WINDOWS...Two, right your darn passwords down and hide them. When I suggested that to my ex her answer was β Iβll forget where I put the paper β! My suggestion was...β put it in the fridge, next to ALL your goodies β.πππ

gas wars at times in Lauderdale area where I wintered '62 thu '67. one place near me had 3 stations on 4 corners. Guys up on ladders changing prices more often than their undies. I'd wait till near closing time then fill 'er up. VW bus with homemade bunk bed in back, plenty baccy & decent pipes. Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY Fess up Ed...that wasn't baccy and it wasn't pipes, it was papers.

You guys make me feel so young and spry.. I love it. It's the opposite for me. I'm not much older than you, but I can relate to a lot of these posts... Starting to get worried that I AM old.

Okay that's a fair point but I'm glossing over the ones I relate to in an effort to counteract the daily "old man"/"grandpa" ribbing I get from my daughters π
